Exercises for thunder thighs

Started my weightless journey almost 2 years ago when I was diagnosed with functional weakness to my legs. It got to the stage where i was confined to a wheelchair and could barely walk.

Slowly but surely i have regained some strength to my legs and I'm quite capable of walking now. Im not able to run or jump etc, but being able to walk is a massive achievement for me.

Obviously being in a wheelchair i couldn't work on toning my legs whilst losing weight.

I've noticed a huge difference in my calves due to the amount of walking I'm now able to do, but my thighs are ridiculously huge and i feel so out of proportion.

Does anyone have any tips or exercises i can do at home? I've tried doing squats but it feels as if my thighs don't have the strength for it yet.

Any advice would be great fully appreciated!

Keep up with the caloric deficit and your thighs will decrease in size on their own. There is no way to spot reduce fat deposits.

    Congrats on your recovery! :drinker:

Yep, unfortunately you can't target where you lose fat from with specific exercises. Your body will let go of it from where it wants to. Just keep up a calorie deficit (and any exercise can help with that) and it will happen.

Squats are great exercises for your thigh muscles though, so even though they won't make the fat there disappear (unless that happens to be where you are going to lose it from next) they will be great for making your thighs stronger.

you can try supported squats (sort of like a chair position) with your back against the wall or back against an exercise ball that's pressed against the wall. just make sure that upper thighs/knee joint has you resting parallel to the floor or even a bit deeper.

I think if you do those you'd eventually build up the strength to do less supported squats.

congrats on your progress this far

I do these exercises I read about in glamour or some other silly magazine that actually feel great and strengthen my legs! They might be called leg lifts... Not sure but they are nice because you get to lie down while you do them.

I lie down on the floor on my side with my head supported by my hand (arm bent 90 degrees). bend at your waist so that your legs make a kind of L from your torso. then lift your top leg about 20-30 degrees. I do reps of 20. then flip over and do your other leg for 20. then repeat!

Although it is true that you cannot spot reduce, I have personally found that squats have made a tremendous difference in my thunder thighs! Having bad knees I hold a bar while squatting and I modify so that I am actually doing sumo squats, there's a video on YouTube, I have achieved amazing results and wonderfully strong thighs! I am, for the first time in my entire life, close to achieving the elusive 'thigh gap' while strengthening my legs and defeating my thunder thighs.
    Good luck!
  • Thank you all for your replies.

Ii understand what you're saying about spot reduction. I'm not trying to blitz the fat as such, just slim them and get rid of some of the wobble!

I've gone from a size 20 to a 12 and i'm honestly happy with where I am now, it's just a case of toning up so i've stopped calorie counting and i'm just eating more "normal" now.

I tend to do bicycle crunches for my abs, do you think this could work with my thighs at all?

I'm going to try some of your recommendations tomorrow.

    Thank you all again :)
