I've been really hungry the past days, can anybody suggest a healthy dish/recipe, savory or sweet, that can be eaten in big servings (except oats I'm getting sick of oatmeal)

I find that what keeps me feeling full is 1) protein, and 2) fiber. So some combination of lean protein (chicken breast, fish, eggs, shrimp, etc.) and vegetables is usually what I go for when I'm feeling ravenous. I can make a big bowl of chopped up raw kale (or any greens you prefer), diced chicken breast cooked in very little oil but lots of spice, egg whites, and any other veg I feel like, and it's usually pretty low cal but very filling.
Also popcorn is a great low-cal snack if you just feel like having some crunch, and if you need something sweet I find that I can eat almost an entire melon for relatively few calories and feel VERY full.0 -
Great suggestions! OOH I LOOOOOOOVE MELONS ♥0

I sometimes cook a piece of fish, chicken or turkey sausage broken up in pieces in a frying pan with pam, then add either zucchini, cauliflower or broccoli, mushrooms or a combo, then add a small can of plain no salt added tomato sauce to it with a little water. I add rosemary, garlic and onion powders, and hot pepper to the sauce. This makes a big bowl of food for little calories and I feel like it is comfort food.
Also a big egg white omelet with a few pieces of canadian bacon (I buy Jones, it is 20cal a slice). Use whatever veggies you like, I use onion and mushrooms. Egg whites are very little calories. Sometimes I will add to the side either a bagel thin, lite english muffin or a premade hashbrown.0 -
steamed green beans topped with slivered almonds.0

Sauteed spinach and mushrooms over lentils (or with sliced chicken sausage).0

Egg beaters with tons of veggies and a small amount (an ounce or so) of shredded cheese. A pint container with all the veggies you can add in a PAM sprayed 2 quart baking dish and baked in the oven. Makes a ton and is diet friendly. :bigsmile:0

Vegetarian chili. Just beans, tomatoes, peppers, onion and spices. If you like zucchini that can bulk it up even more. Skip the oil and use about 4:1 veggies to beans, and it's very low cal.0

OMG I LOVE THE VEGGIE CHILI IDEA!!0

Vegetarian lasagna (without the pasta sheets). Thinly slice zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, spinach, capsicum, mushroom, carrot (you can also add broccoli, cauliflower or other veggies) + tomato pasta sauce + a low cal bechamel (milk, minimal flour and butter & cheese) in a roasting/casserole dish and bake.0

Trader Joe's has a shrimp stir-fry in their frozen section that's really good and the WHOLE bag is only 175 calories IIRC. Sometimes I add different sauces to it.0

A massive pile of veggies stirfried with garlic and ginger. Add some soy sauce and fish sauce and serve with a piece of grilled fish and a squeeze of lime. If you are really hungry a small portion of rice makes this a delicious and filling dinner for about 500 calories.0

A nice big bowl of veggie soup or chicken and veggies soup with lentils0

My standby is Greek salad. English cucumber, cherry tomatoes, sweet onion and 1.5 tablespoons of Riverhouse Feta dressing (not a diet dressing - those are nasty). Under 300 calories total and only a few minutes prep time.0

Vegetable soup is my FAV go-to. My recipe is only 114 cals per cup. I can have a big bowl of soup for only 228 cals and am totally stuffed after eating it. Throw in a can of all your favorites...my recipe is 1 can of green beans, lima beans, tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, black eyed peas, corn, sweet peas, and then 2 cans of sliced potatoes. I have eaten it every day this week!0

Slice an eggplant, a couple of zucchini, a red onion, a couple of peppers, add some cherry tomatoes, spray with 5-6 sprays of 1 cal spray and bake in a hot oven for about 20 minutes. Top with about an ounce of crumbled goats cheese, sprinkle with balsamic vinegar and pop under a hot grill to melt the cheese. Really, really good!0

Spaghetti squash with spaghetti sauce with lots of veggies in it (I do chunks of zucchini, onion, mushrooms, and shredded carrot), 7% fat ground beef, and cheese on top. If the slightly crunchy texture of the squash bothers you, mix everything together and simmer it for a while longer.
Squeeze out any moisture from the spaghetti squash, add an egg (or some greek yogurt which is creamier but doesn't hold together as well), a can of albacore tuna, bacon, green onions, garlic, smoke flavor or Worcestershire, cheddar, and feta. Huge amount of food which tastes like comfort food because of the cheese for low calories. The squash ends up with the consistency of hash browns.
Chicken breasts with a jar of salsa in the crock pot over veggies, rice, beans, whatever you have cals for.
Canned soup is way filling for only a few calories. Fresh made is even better of course.0 -
In for deliciousness0
