According to this calculator I burned 527 calories?

So until I gather enough money to buy a polar HRM I did some searching through the net for a good accurate calculator
I came across this calculator and I read something that someone had to say about it here both are:
http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/WalkRunMETs.html
"I can't speak for the other ones, but this calculator is based on the ACSM energy prediction equations (that's a good thing).
The equations are not that difficult to program into even a cheapo treadmill console. I suspect that you will find that the calculations on the above site come very close to what is displayed on a commercial treadmill. And, in this case, the calculations will be more accurate than a heart rate monitor."
I did 40 minutes at 4 mph on a 15% (the highest for my treadmill) incline (which can burn just as much as running does btw) also my pulse rate went up to 112 (just giving you all the info i know haha)
But I feel that 527 is too much..... maybe around 400 but deffo not 527 and now I have 1000 calories I need to eat to get a net of 1200 calories (I am at 100 calories net) and it's 6:31pm!!!!
Can anyone give their opinion on this calc? It would help if you filled it out for the last exercise you did and see how it compares to how many you've burned using your HRM etc?

also according to this I have burned 470 calories:

Don't forget to subtract the cals you would have burned during that time if you weren't exercising.0

I don't quite understand....?
On the Exrx.net calculator i posted in my post it has an option of "gross" or "net"
the net is 487 and the gross is 527
I don't understand >.<0 -
Yeah, that first site seemed to give me a fair estimate of calories burned. I have a Bodymedia and it seemed similar when I plugged in a few things. If you're nervous about it though, only eat 50-75% of your exercise calories back and see what your results are. If you start losing weight too quickly or feel that you aren't fueling your workouts properly, eat up.0

What is your TDEE? What is the amount of cals you burn in a day with out exersizes? Take that number and decide by 24, that is what you burn a hour just doing daily activity. Subtract that from the gross cals burnedandyou have your net cal burn. Also many people only eat back a % of their exersizes cals. I aim for 60-80%0

How did you measure your heart rate? 112 is barely a fast walk for most people. For example once I warm up for a run my HR is usually in the 150's and 35 minutes of running on the road at 5 to 6 mph nets me about 300 calories. Your calculation seems very high especially with a HR that low.0 -

I agree that HR is really low. And the burn quite high for a HR that low. Maybe that was a typo?0 -
I agree. I don't think I could even do 40 mins. at 4mph at 15% incline on my treadmill. That's steep! Do a google image search of '15% incline treadmill'.0

i put my finger tips on the sensor thingy for a couple seconds
my treadmill said i burned 40 calories and these other clauclators are too high! so idk what to do!
hence why i asked the question!0 -

crap well I just ate back my calories that i thought i burned! now idk how much i burned0 -
Going over 1200 net cals one day will not stop you from losing. Just shake it off and start fresh tomorrow.0

A lot of it is going to depend on your stats … I didn't see those in the OP or any replies. Male/female and weight are going to be the biggest factors. My husband and I can do the same workout and he burns almost double the calories (he's a foot taller and weighs 100+ pounds more) - not fair!
I think for most cardio, 10 calories per minutes is a decent estimate, unless you are very large. The 470 might be accurate, since it was 15% incline and mph (that's a fairly brisk walk), but you want to be careful to not overestimate.
Don't worry about what you've already eaten back … it's not going to make or break your weight loss, especially for one day. My best suggestion would be to try 10 calories per minute and if you feel overly hungry, increase it … if you aren't losing weight like you want (don't aim for more than 1-2 lbs per week) and you have plenty of energy, decrease it. In the end, we all have to do that, anyway.0 -
I usually have a similar heart rate when I do walks on 15% incline between 3.5 mph as to when I jog 5-6 mph. My heart rate was 126 yesterday when I was walking 3.0 mph at 15% and I have a 60 bpm resting heart rate, am 40 and weigh about 176. I workout about 10 hours per week, including swimming, run intervals and CrossFit. I have been working out regularly for over a year. I'm surprised your heart rate was only 112 at 4 mph and 15%. I incline walk and hike a lot in the summer and that seems very low to me for that speed and grade.0

I am female, 18, 5"8 and 126 pounds
okay you sound like you know what you're talking about!! I shall stick to guessing that I burn 400 calories per 40 min session on the treadmill? Once I get some good trainers I will be able to walk at a faster speed and therefore my HR will be higher etc but right now the trainers I have are so bad my ankles were killing me in the last 10 mins
also whats the point in me eating back my calories? if I want to lose weight cant I just eat 1200 calories and burn 400 and have a net of 800? I really need to lose 8 pounds by 28th december!!!!! after that I will eat back my calories burned0 -

well i think my treadmill is faulty tbh it says I burned 40 calories in 40 minutes and plus its got some other problems with the monitor and i only left my hand on the pulse sensor for a around a couple seconds0 -

Okay so if you lose 8 pounds in 7 days, it's going to be a lot of water. I would just do a cleanse/fast if you are going to get that crazy and skip the exercise. Then in a week, aim for 1-2 pounds loss max per week and eat back your exercise calories. If you don't, you are going to lose muscle mass and while you'll be getting smaller, you will lose muscle with the fat and it won't be as noticeable as if you engage in body recomp.0 -

I don't really understand I just wanna lose 8 pounds in 4 weeks :P and then maintain that for ever
but when i would eat on;ly 1200 calories give or take 200 cals i wouldn't lose any weight is it because i was eating unhealthily? do i only need to eat 1200 calories of pure healthy food?
does exercising basically mean you can eat more? it doesn't burn fat?0 -
At 5'8", 126 lbs., losing 8 lbs. would put you well in the 'underweight' BMI category.0
