Right, so, what are some ways/regimes to weight train(lift) WITHOUT well... weights? Going to a gym is not an option you see, because I have neither funds nor transportation to get to one. All I have are puny 3lb and 5lb hand weights.

I want to lose fat and maybe perhaps gain/maintain muscle.

Lots of workouts using your own body weight, for example. Squats, lunges, all kinds of planks, burpees, many, many pushups. Maybe a pull up bar in your house so you can work on those. Jump rope to burn fat. Jillian Michaels has a video called Burn fat boost metabolism (or something like that) and it's free on youtube. That's a fast paced 60 minute workout that incorporates some weights (like the ones you have) but mostly body weight exercises.

There is a lot you can do in the comfort of your own home without spending a dime.

ETA: nerdfitness.com has a circuit you can do at home. Look it up.

Well body weight exercises are always an option! Pushups, squats, plank, etc.

Youtube is a great place to look. I really like Blogilates. She rarely (if ever) uses weights and she has strength, flexibility, cardio, hiits, clean eating recipes, meal plans, workout calendars, etc. All for free. It's a great site. Although she can be a bit much at times. She has a great starter series on LiveStrongWoman that I go back to a lot.

same as me then, if i didn't go to the gym and had little money my first investment would be a pair of running shoes, a chin up and dip machine and an assistance band

I was really into HIIT workouts this summer before I joined the gym to do heavy lifting. All I used was a yoga mat, a pair of 15lb weights, and a nice open space. HIIT is nice because you can get a super effective burn in a limited amount of time (20-30 min) and at a very low cost because you do it at home. You can change up your program constantly which makes it both more effective & more interesting. Search the net for HIIT moves. I picked a handful of moves and did each for a minute at a very high intensity for one minute at a time with one minute of walking in between each move and then went back through the list to make a 30 minute total. Good luck :)

Is there a playground nearby? I've been doing calisthenics using children's playground equipment.

This guy uses just a chin up bar and his own body weight.
