Logging JM's Yoga Meltdown

Hey everyone,

I'm brand new to the boards as well to calorie counting and working out consistently. I just finished day 16 of the 30 Day Shred, and I think I'm going to add Jillian's Yoga video to my routine every other day or so. I just feel like I should be doing a bit more to get the results I want to see.

I was curious about those of you who have done this particular video and how you logged it? Would you consider it just simply yoga? I don't have a HRM yet and am trying to be as accurate as possible in these first few days especially. Thanks a bunch!

If I were you I wouldn't even log it. It's not really a cardio, just some stretching, it won't burn much calories. If you log these kinds of things you might as well log yourself going to a Walmart mile away and shopping, and brushing teeth, cos it also burns calories. It's on a edge of being pedantic about thee things.

That being said, if one mile walk is super intense fore you cos you are very much out of shape then yoga will prolly also be and you could log it. But seeing that you have set goal to lose only 20 lbs I doubt that's the case.

    My opinion anyways.

I know it isn't cardio, but it definitely isn't only stretching… it's a lot of power poses and body weight. I mean, I'm not in the best shape but I'm not in terrible shape either, and I was sweating and struggling with some of the movements so… I definitely think I'd like to log it.

    Any other opinions?

Based on a power yoga calorie counter I found online for my weight and 34 minutes I burned approximately 245 calories.

My HRM tells me 145 calories for level 1. I am 5'8", 142lbs and female if that helps.

It does, thanks! :) I'm shorter and heavier than you so I think it makes sense that I would be between 200-250.

JM's Yoga Meltdown isn't really yoga. She takes yoga poses and turns them into a tortuous Jillian style workout. It would burn more than yoga but less than circuit training because there isn't a lot of cardio involved. I'd think 150 calories would probably be a good guess on the safe side. 200 or 250 sounds too high for the cardio level of it.

I did it once. Burned about 65 calories. It's not a big calorie burner.

Thanks. :) I've really got to get a HRM, apparently. I don't mean to sound naive because I'm sure I'm burning less than it feels like I am, but there's no way I'm only burning 50-70 calories. I think I'm going to log the shred but not anything extra for the next few weeks because I really want to drop a bit before I go home for Christmas!
