What if you can't

Options
Hey all. I was wondering about this today. Like I've said before, I haven't been a workout guy all of my life. I tried to do one push-up, and ending up pinching a nerve in my neck that lasted almost 2 weeks. It seems that I can only walk, but are there beginner beginner workouts I can do that won't hurt me since I'm starting to do this?

Nerd Fitness is a great resource. Here's a piece they did that includes a section on working up to pushups, but they have others on pullups and a variety of fitness-related topics:

As for a beginner beginner routine... I'm honestly not sure. There might be something there on Nerd Fitness. I know Scooby has a suggested beginning resistance routine as well. The links on each exercise go to video demonstrations, and he offers beginner versions of each in the videos:

There is nothing wrong with walking as your new routine. Add anything you like, but if you do the walking, you will improve your fitness and lose weight. Success breeds success - see improvements with walking then add something - one something - and succeed at the combo. Your strength will build, and before you know it, you will be doing push ups.
