Weight Loss Surgery Article - Thoughts?
I came across this article in the morning Metro, and thought I would post it for discussion. Personally, I have been fortunate enough to employ diet and exercise to successfully medicate my weight-related issues and have never been in the position to consider surgery, but I know that for some it exists as a necessary and viable option. I do not judge health decisions made by others, but I found the tone of this article to be questionable. Would anyone else like to offer an opinion?

It is titled "Obesity Surgery for Teens is Safe, New Says Study" and was published by Metro Canada. I can't seem to find an online version of the exact article, but here are a couple that are discussing the same thing:

I had Gastric Bypass at the age of 19, just over a year out of highschool. The day I went into surgery I weighed almost 350lbs. The smallest I have been since then has been 120lbs. I have gained some weight since then, going between 160-180lbs. Even with some of the complications I've had, I'll never regret having it. I got my surgery from Creditvalley clinic. Now i'm happy that i took this decision.0

As usual I would say, the truth is a lot more complex. A operation alone is almost never the anwer.

There is no black or white.. only grey.0 -
I just had WLS and I do not regret it one bit. Yeah I'm still on Phase 3 for food, I still have a way to go before I can eat other things. but having surgery is in no way a bandaid. You still have to do all the work to get the weight off. I still need to exercise and eat healthy for the weight to come off; the surgery just helps with portion control. It's a tool not a quick fix.0

That's scary....it's a problem and for a select few it maybe the answer but they can't bandaid an epidemic with something like that.0
