Working out and losing weight with an injury

Hey all..... need some suggestions for workouts for the next 4-6 weeks. I have broken my left foot and will be in a boot and on crutches for at least 4 weeks. I was running 3.5 miles about 3 times a week and then the arc trainer and/or ellipitical the other 3 days and also weight lifting. I have lost 27 lbs and have another 20 or to go so I don't want to impede my progress. I know I can probably work heavy on my arms and core but what about cardio?

Any suggestions?

You have my sympathies - I badly sprained one ankle and did something random to the other falling down some stairs 8 weeks ago and they still aren't right.

The single most important thing is to allow your injury to heal - but you know that :-)

Can you do upper body cardio work? Things like punches. That should help keep your fitness up without putting strain on your injured leg.

    I hope it heals cleanly

You're probably going to have to forego the cardio until your foot heals. Focus on your diet, lift heavy (back, chest and shoulders), and heal that foot.

Do you have a gym membership so you can at least do resistance training? If not, Google 'my body is my gym'. They have some great workouts using your own body weight for resistance.

Probably no cardio until you at least get into a walking cast. The most important thing now is to heal and stay within your calorie deficit.

    Good luck!!

Maybe try using a rowing machine.....I'm thinking you could probably do it wthout putting too much pressure onto your feet...

Not sure, but think you are going to be happy with just upper body workout. I tore a tendon around my ankle 14 mos ago and was in a boot for 8 weeks - then phys therapy. Didn't start lower body for about a total of 6-7 months. Although maybe could have started sooner. And that was /is cycling. Now i can play tennis again and go to the gym and do all the leg exercises too.
Just try to be patient and work on the upper body (i wish i had done that!). But most important is to let your foot heal - you will be back doing all the things you want to when its had time to do this.
Good luck - you can do this!

Thanks everyone! I've had good progress with weight loss in the 4 months I have been trying and hate to slow down.

    Good tips from everyone!
