Vomitting for two days no matter how lightly I drink?

Ok so this just started happening around 2-3 weeks ago. I only drink ONCE per week. Just once. I drink extremely light, never get drunk. I use to be able to drink a lot and I realize our bodies change overtime.

No matter what I drink though, if I only have 2 shots at the most. The next day and the following day are pure miserable. I vomit, feel nauseous. Can't sit still and have to keep running to the bathroom. I vomit after every meal. I can't hold anything down. This weekend, I drank for my brother's birthday party. It has been 3 days since that night and I'm still nauseous. I'm not throwing up like I was yesterday and the day before, but I can barely still hold down any of my meals.

I have been to the gastro a lot since I was born with gastro problems almost having to remove my entire colon. I've had small ulcers spotted in my stomach when I was 19. I am now 21.. take protonix and such. I would of thought overtime they would have diminished, but this issue for the past 3 weeks is getting me pretty nervous. I was wondering since most organizational sites say wait up to one week before seeing a doctor. Colon cancer runs in the family, but I'm.. somewhat way too young to have that already. Do ulcers do this to you? I got my ulcers from stress-related situations which have not gotten better so it could be that they have gotten worse.

And btw, I am not pregnant because I am on my girl thing as I write this out. lol.

Does anyone else have this problem?

    You should see a doctor.

Also, if something consistently makes you sick for days, don't eat or drink it.

Either something is wrong because of your GI issues, you could be allergic, or there could be something else going on. I would suggest a doctors appointment immediately.

i've heard of people being allergic to alcohol. i feel really really bad for anyone with this affliction.
  • I don't have this problem, but if I did, I would stop drinking. Unfortunately, it may be something you need to give up.

My father use to drink regular and then one day his body shifted on him and he could no longer drink. Not certain why but it happened. He has lived a very productive life since and retired. Seldom drinks anything other than an occasional wine, still that sometimes gives him a headache. But see a Doctor to make certain nothing else has happened.

Definitely stop drinking alcohol. If it makes you that sick, it's not worth indulging in.
  • Ok thank you for the input. I've been getting worried since I can't drink at all anymore. Just seems silly how my body can't even handle wine..

I don't mind giving up alcohol since I enjoy not drinking. I just can't understand why lately my body can't handle it at all.
It's possible to be allergic to alcohol? o.o

I've noticed I can handle my homemade mac and cheese. That's about it.

It's not as simple as "well just stop drinking, duh." This isn't a normal response to ingesting alcohol, especially since you used to be able to drink just fine. Definitely see a doctor, something isn't right.

Why would you not go to a doctor with this given your history and your family history?

I would try, ya know...NOT DRINKING.

Just a shot in the dark.
  • Thank you for replying something realistic as well as the others.

I don't mind giving up alcohol. That's not the problem. It's just weird that this never use to happen so something in my body changed and I'm just curious if anyone else had these issues before and what their result was?

Yeah, with your history, I don't think you are being too hasty if you schedule a doctor's apt now. It could be any one of your digestive organs reacting, and it sounds pretty dramatic. I think you already said you won't be drinking anymore, so that's good.

Take good care and check back with us, OK?

I was 4.5 months pregnant before I knew it because I kept having my "girl thing". Take a test.

Thank you for the kind response <3 I'm going to schedule one when I get out of work today. Hopefully I can fit an appt around my work schedule since I work til 5pm and most doctors are closed by then.
I'll let everyone know the results when I get them in case if anyone else has this issue along with GI history.

The only reason I say this is because I only vomit a few days after drinking. So it's not randomly. It's due to alcohol.

My ulcers healed when I quit drinking.

Get to a doctor - this may or may not be to do with the alcohol. I know it isn't generally indicative of bowel conditions (I had UC myself until ileostomy at 22). It really isn't as simple as "stop drinking" in my opinion that would be the "head in sand" approach.

So it only happens when you drink alcohol?? seems like a simple solution to me :ohwell:
  • I believe it is only due to alcohol. But I will be able to tell this weekend since I won't be drinking Fri or Sat night.

I could be wrong since I've been feeling nauseous all day today, but haven't vomited once. So... I feel like it's getting better from Sat night.

why isn't it a just stop drinking issue? The OP said it ONLY happens when she drinks alcohol....

If the OP said I puke every time I eat then yes it would be a more generalized issue..

Given that it seems to be only alcohol that brings this on, I'd ask for bloodwork testing liver function.

I believe because it could be something serious since if it IS my ulcers, I shouldn't be eating spaghetti sauce, drinking orange juice, etc. Something should be checked on in the body instead of just ignoring it is what I think that post meant.

There's no way to know if her newfound sensitivity to alcohol is just a sensitivity to alcohol or a symptom of something more sinister without the aid of a doctor.

Ok, if that was case wouldn't you think that other activities besides just drinking would induce vomiting?

Throughout the comments, I already mentioned that it does. I can only handle my homemade mac and cheese right now. Certain foods especially bread and caffeine make it worse.

Neither you or I have a definitive answer to that question - the OP stated that she had bowel issues which nearly led to a colectomy in some form and also has ulcers. Even if it is "just" a reaction to alcohol, the answer is still 'see a doctor' because there could be an underlying issue that needs further examination/treatment.
