so ive been reading up on diets and the different types of meal plans ( i had no idea there were so many ) and this website has a planner that asks you questions about your weight , lifestyles and goals. i entered everything and it suggested i do the " low-carb express" meal plan . it says its designed to " fast track your weight loss" what exactly does that mean ? i think im thinking to hard about many things and on top of that im new to the diets so i dont know what most stuff means.
what im getting from it is its designed to help you shed the fat and pounds at a faster rate ? i know that if you have alot of weight to lose its typically faster then it slows down as your body has less and less fat . since i have alot to lose do you think this meal plan along with exercise would help me shed those first couple pounds at a fast rate? not super fast but like would i be able to see even the slightest different in 2 weeks?

I do not recommend fast tracking your weight loss. I recommend setting your MFP profile to lose one pound per week. Meet your calorie goal. If you exercise, eat back the calories. It works. I promise.0

your ticker shows that you have 40 pounds to lose. if you want to be successful, you're going to want to stop thinking in terms of progress you'll be able to see in 2 weeks0

I agree with MB_P … follow the MFP guidelines. Eat reasonably, exercise, and track everything. Don't be in a rush.
Also, I notice that the link you gave us is for BeachBody. They probably want to sell you stuff to go with your meal plan (shakes, etc). While I've heard their workouts are great, I wouldn't buy any sort of diet/meal plan shakes or substitute foods. You can get everything you need at the grocery store for much less (as in food - vegetables, fruit, meat, some whole grains, etc.)0 -
What Dav and MB said.
You don't need to go low carb to lose weight.0 -

Are you serious?0 -
i dont plan on buying anything from them im good off buying those nasty shakes . they just have a customizable healthy meal plan that id like to follow. im not expecting a huge difference in two weeks but i just wanted to know if low carb diets in general are good for helping you lose your weight like i said not super fast because i know that wont happen but just a bit quicker . and i do get health is everything but i dont plan on taking a whole year just to lose this weight or i dont plan on losing it in a month either0

It's entirely possible it could take a year, maybe a little less. Please try to accept the fact that it may not come off as quickly as you envision. I say this only because I don't want to see you get stressed out if it is slow. It will happen. Patience and simplicity are essential.0 -
Weight loss is caused by calorie deficit, and for a lot of people, cutting carbs is a way to create that deficit. There will be an initial 'whoosh' of weight loss if you go low-carb, as you will lose water weight (carbohydrate; its a hydrated molecule, cut it and you lose water). however, it is not superior to any other mode of creating a calorie deficit. If it is what you find to be sustainable over the long haul, have at it. If you don't plan on doing it forever though, find another way.0

With 40 lbs to lose, 2 lbs/week is too aggressive of a goal. 1 lb/week is more reasonable, tapering to 1/2 lb/week once you get within 10 lbs of your goal. I know it's tempting to want to lose it quickly, but you do yourself a disservice following that route. Healthy weight loss takes time.
Agree with julz, BB wants to sell you something.0 -

Here's what I wrote in your other thread (you shouldn't duplicate posts, fyi):
Keep it simple. There's no need to follow any schmancy, restrictive plan, nor to "jump start" your weight loss.
Use the mfp settings to generate a daily caloric intake goal. You don't say how much you plan to lose but here's a good rule of thumb in terms of setting your weekly lb loss goal:
More than 75 lbs: 2 lbs/week
40-75 lbs: 1.5 lbs/week
10-40 lbs: 1 lb/week
Less than 10 lbs: 0.5 lb/week
Eat foods that you like, that fit in your caloric goal, and help you hit reasonable amounts of protein and fat. Aim to get around 80-90% "whole" foods, and enjoy treats or whatever you like for the rest. Don't be fooled into thinking you need to cut out entire food groups to lose weight. Track your intake carefully, by weighing and measuring your food. Get some exercise in, preferably involving some resistance training.

Do it. Profit.
Also, it took me over a year to lose 45 lbs.0 -
I just did the survey and it suggested low-carb and 1300 calories for me. I would be a very grumpy and hungry person if I were to do that. To address your primary question, it's my unprofessional opinion that the low-carb diet will not fast track your weight loss. I think you would see loss because it's also restricting calories and not just because of the carb ratio. My suggestion, like others have said, is to set your MFP to one lb loss per week and stick to that. That way you can eat what you want within those numbers. The more you restrict, the more likely a binge or yo-yo-ing will occur. If you wanted to make the investment, a food scale will also help A LOT with this process. After I bought a scale I realized how wrong some of my guesses and even using measuring cups were.0

Realistically, low carb will not speed up fat loss. What is does is reduces the amount of glycogen/water your store, so you lose 5-10lbs quickly.. but it's not fat loss. As much as I love beachbody, the majority of their nutrition stuff is iffy IMO. Go onto their caloric needs calculator and figure out your needs. It's fairly good if you don't use really aggressive goals. I would put that you need to lose a little bit of weight. Or you can post your height, weight age and which workout you are doing and we can run some numbers and set you up.0

I just took their test and it had me on "balanced slim-down" with a goal of 1900 calories per day. The balanced slim-down has a goal of 40/30/30 which just happens to be what my macros are already set to.0

Yup. It took me over a year to lose 50 pounds. But I'm perfectly happy with that. It also gave me a year to learn new habits, and really make them habits.0 -

Not quite... and the biochemist in me can't help but pedantically correct this! Sorry!
A carbohydrate has the general formula Cn(H2O)n. In essence, it is hydrated carbon (for every 1 carbon, there are 2 hydrogens and one oxygen, just like in water). But that's not the reason that when you go on a low carb diet you lose water weight: that is to do with the association of glycogen with water in muscles. Although glycogen is a carb, not all carbs associate with water in this way.
But yeah - I agree with the rest.0 -
I went Low-Carb for two reasons:
1) I am diabetic. Grains, rice, and corn in all their variations are high-glycemic foods.
Nowadays, my blood glucose measurements are at better levels.
2) Grains, rice, and corn are high-calorie foods. I'd rather spend my allowance of carbohydrate calories
on vegetables and fruits which fill my stomach, and keep hunger away for hours.
Best wishes!0 -

No worries! I tend to go with the most simplistic explanations in these...nice to see someone paying attention to the details. :flowerforyou:0
