I had to give myself a good talking to.
What do I want more? My health or sugar, which I chose to give up because it makes me really moody and gives me insomnia.
What do I want more? To look lovely in smaller sized clothes or get a moments gratification from a product containing wheat?
By rationalising I have managed to make hard rules that work really well for me. Also I'm not on a diet. This is forever, my decisions are less about the scales and more about portion control and ingredients, using MFP for inspirational stories (I visit the Success Board a lot) , getting stronger, being less moody, my IBS symptoms have virtually vanished, sleeping better, better concentration at work, not wasting money on junk food/drinks so my healthy grocery bill doesn't look so scary.
You need to find the "recipe" of lifestyle that you enjoy and can sustain that allows you to have a calorie deficit of at least 3,500 cals a week if you want to lose just one pound, or less if you are happy to lose slower and embed new habits for life.
Hope that helps0 -

If you haven't lost one pound in six months, you need to cut your calories more. I'd be discouraged, too. Eat a little less, you'll see results.0

In my regime you have to earn a treat day (notice I said treat not cheat) usually after you reach your goal so you can maintain and splurge occasionally knowing you haven't undone all your hard work. Weigh yourself every morning after you pee. Make yourself think before eating, does this food help me get to my goal?
Make rewards for achieving your goals that are not food related.
E.g. I'll buy that new album I want if I can shift 4 pounds this month. And don't give in and buy if anyway, have some self respect and hold yourself accountable.
