6 Months Pregnant

I'm 22 and 6 months pregnant. I wish myfitnesspal had a selection that shows you're pregnant, but it does help me keep track of my calories, carbs, ect. I've been doing a 1300 calorie intake because that's what I've been use to before I got pregnant. When I get into my third trimester I'll up my intake by 420. These past 6 months I've gained 18lbs. Doctor said I should gain 25 to 35 pounds. I think I'm doing pretty good.

I wish MFP had a pregnant option too! I'm 17 weeks pregnant with #3. I just set my activity level to lightly active, and my calorie goal to maintenance at my current weight. So far I have lost and gained 5 pounds, putting me at my starting weight lol. I have never gained a lot of weight with my pregnancies, but then I'm 5'7" and 196 pounds already. I did gain about 15 pounds right before I got pregnant this time.0

Do your doctors / midwives know you are calorie restricting in pregnancy and are you doing so under supervision? This article gives info on how much to INCREASE calories by http://imgur.com/JfDjH6e
Good luck with your pregnancies0 -
A friend on here is prego. She just changed her goal from loss to 0.5# gain per week.
Eating at a deficit probably is no wise while prego. You are eating for two now.
You can also ask your doctor what your goal should be.
Just my $0.02. But then what do I know? I'm a guy.0 -
The eating for 2 is a myth really. You do not need to double your intake just because you are pregnant. I would however advise you not to wait until the 3rd trimester to increase, you should up it by about 300 in the second and then do the 450 in the 3rd. Your body is very good about taking what it needs for baby and sometimes that leaves the moms without, so make sure what you are putting into your body is good for you.
That being said, 1300 is pretty low for a pregnant person in general, even if that is what you were used to prior, and i would make your starting point closer to the 1600-2000 range.
Weight gain is ineveitable and normal. Its very hard to watch the numbers go up, especially when you are used to seeing them go down, but know that is what your body is designed to do, and there will be so much time to lose the weight once baby is here and healthy.
Also, make sure to take your prenatals, they do wonders.
Stay active and make good food choices and you shouldnt have any problems. Should you go on to nurse your child, i would really recommend staying firm on your diets, that is when i gained the weight with my children, i managed to stay at a 20lb weight gain with all 3 of them during pregnancy, not watching what i ate. But when i nursed, i was 10 times more hungry then when i was pregnant and it caused me to gain weight like crazy every time.0 -
My suggestion is to eat when you are hungry, but track it to make sure that you aren't eating like 2500 calories a day. I am 5'3" and started at 125 when I got pregnant with my second (she is almsot 2 now) and I usually ate around 1600 to 1800 calories and then ate back exercise calories. I gained 25 lbs and lost it all within 6 months. Do not deprive yourself or your baby nutrients, but don't use it as an excuse to go all out. I hope you have a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy and a happy healthy baby at the end.0

I agree, it would be helpful if they had a pregnancy option. My first pregnancy I gained 60 lbs because I went WAY overboard with the eating toward the end. I never lost the weight from that pregnancy, and now I am seven weeks pregnant and 175 lbs. I am 1 pound lighter than when I got pregnant, and I am trying really hard not to gain more than 15 lbs this time!
It does sound like you are doing really well, just make sure you eat enough to nourish your baby, you need extra nutrients to prevent birth defects.0
