Curse of the Big Tummy

For those who have a lot to lose -- as you were losing weight did you feel like you were getting smaller everywhere but in your midsection? I feel like my belly is getting droopier -- like all the fat is running away from other parts of my body and settling around my middle (even though the tape measure does say my waist is 11 inches smaller than it was 11 months ago). But I look at this big ol' gut hanging here and wonder how I'll ever get rid of it. I know some folks have had to have surgery and I really don't even want to think about that being a necessity some day -- but at age 41 and after having been so heavy for so many years, I really wonder if all this skin will ever shrink away (not completely, I'm not living in a complete fantasy world!) -- or am I going to be tucking my tummy skin into my pants like I'm tucking in a shirt!?!?!?

I have noticed that the weight doesn't come off evenly everywhere, all of a sudden my arms will seem smaller, or a certain part of my legs, etc. I am in my forties and my stomach does not seem to be bouncing back, but I try not to worry about it because the downsides of the excess weight (on my health) are worse than excess skin. A lot of people end up with something at the belly they tuck into jeans, or opt for surgery.

I have read/heard that a lot of times people do lose their belly last....and that you have to get to a certain body fat percentage to get every last little droplet of fat out of there before it stops being so droopy.

I do not have personal experience in that area, though, so I hope you find somebody who has had the issue and will be able to tell ya how it is. =P

I agree seems like my tummy looks just as big as when I started.

Yes. It's just now starting to move at the last couple of pounds. I expect to have to do some reconditioning to get it really where I want it.

As my weight has dropped, my measures have changed very consistently. 20cm of bust, waist and hips. However I have always been overweight and gained most of it during my teens. I'm 44 now and will have to have surgery to get rid of the hanging stomach and bust. I will probably also need to get my upper arms and inner thighs fixed too. Too much weight, too early, too long. No amount of training can fix that to my satisfaction. It all pretty much looks like a hanging, once overinflated, now deflated balloon....

I have my first consultation in January to see, what can / needs to be done and what that will mean for me (costs, timeline, risks, etc.)
