    I have a Fitbit One.
Pros - 1) small & easily concealed 2) records steps and flights of stairs 3) can record an activity separately and then combine for a daily total

Cons - 1) very generous on calories burned (I wake up in the morning with 400+ calories burned) 2) it is .2 miles off for every mile I walk (I tracked it on a measured walking trail) If anyone knows how to correct this problem - I'd appreciate it!

I used credit card points to buy it. I wear it because I try to reach 10,000 steps every day. I don't sync it to MFP.

There is a way to adjust the fitbit to YOUR step length. There is a fitbit community group on MFP that has people that know how to make those changes. You can also adjust your calories burned to be predicted or actual...sometimes if you did a great workout the day before, that burn keeps going and I believe it is calculated in the fitbit. I don't know the source, but I know I have read about people doing both the fitbit and heartrate monitor and both coming out fairly close at the end of the day. Serously, hit the fitbit forum for the details on how to resolve the problems you are having! It can be done. I don't know how, but I know the people in that forum do!!!

I ordered the Fitbit flex because I got a great deal on it at a school I work at! I am really excited to use it....the question I have is what are your reasons for syncing it to MFP and also what are your reasons for NOT syncing it to MFP for those that don't! I can't wait to wear it!

I sync because I like that it is easier to log food and water in MFP and all of that info transfers to Fitbit site. (Used less than MFP, but I like the info to be there.) I like the exercise credit for the walking that I do, but I do NOT have the "predictive" thing turned on. (a feature that is great for some...not so great for me!)

Thank you EVERYONE! All of your responses have helped in making my decision a little less stressful. I've decided on the FORCE in slate. Now I have to wait for the "2 - 4 weeks" It' my Christmas and Birthday gift to ME! Thanks again everyone

I really, really liked my One, but upgraded to the Force and LOVE IT!!!! Having the info at my fingertips is great, and I set multiple alarms throughout the day to remind myself to move. You can set alarms on the One as well, but since I wore it on my bra it was awkward if it went off during a meeting! Plus, I never forget to put it on.

I had the Ultra, the original one, and replaced it with the One. I love it! I would get the Flex, but I wear the One when I play volleyball and volleyball isn't exactly condusive to having wrist impediments!

How long have you had the FORCE? Is it all you expect it to do?

I have the Force and I love it. It helps keep me motivated to move. I find myself going the long way to get somewherre so I can add more steps :). I have had it a little over 30 days and I could not be more pleased with it. You can set daily goals for steps, stairs etc. As a result I also take the stairs more often. As with many other things in life, it is not the be all end all....but it is a tool that can help you along your journey. Good Luck!!
  • Thanks mjterp! I will check it out!

I have had my fitbit one since February 2013.
I love it. It does what I want it to do, motivate me to move more. It does not pick up all of the steps I do when I work out on the elliptical (example, this morning the machine said I did 2.7 miles in the first 1/2 hour, fit bit said 1.9 miles). I am ok with that and realize that neither number is probably accurate. I do know that it does good on actual steps taken. I don't care about the calories burned feature. At my age, I am more concerned with moving more, and for that, I am more than pleased. It is the very best motivator that I have. I go out of my way now to take stairs, park farther away at work and on errands. It is perfect for me and I love it! I am sure you will be happy with whatever you get!

This is perfectly normal, your body burns calories while you are asleep. I'm currently 150lb and burn approximately 1 cal per minute when asleep, so always have 400+ when I was up. Your fitbit is working correctly :-)

    1) As someone else already mentioned, the 400+ calories when you get up in the morning is due to your Basal Metabolic Rate.

    2) Adjust your stride length in the Personal Info section of Settings (on your FitBit account). You should be able to calculate your stride length by using that same measured walking trail. I set mine by counting my steps in a tiled hallway in our house (each tile = 1 foot) but then confirmed it was close enough to correct by walking to the mailbox and back and it gave about the right distance (1/3 mile). The hallway is probably a bit short for an accurate average, but it was the best I had that was convenient.
