Is this normal?

So I have lost weight before, and it was pretty quickly even then. But I'm beginning to wonder why my body does this, and if it's in some way bad. It seems I lose about 1 pound every day that I count calories. I mean last time, I lost 40 pounds and that's pretty much how it was, even at me eating 1500-2000 calories. Granted I didn't lose 7 pounds per week i don't think, because I cheated sometimes, so I'd gain a little back, then re-lose etc.. Also by the end of the weight loss it was closer to a half pound per day. MFP has me eating around 1300 calories now and again I just started on Monday and I've already lost 4 pounds. I know it could have something to do with me just starting and being so heavy to start. I was 245(biggest ever) so maybe that has something to do with it?

You'll lose quickly in the beginning and a lot of it is just water weight. The more you have to lose the more you will lose in the first couple of weeks. When you are closer to your goal weight it gets much harder.
  • For me, the BMR equation most site use are totally off! Yes, you may lose water weight in the beginning or in some cases "real" weight up to a certain point, then nothing. This is typically when I would search for a new diet and feel like I was the only one that couldn't lose the weight at my BMR they were equating for me. I switched to using a different method that allows me the flexibility I need to lose the weight and engage in life without white knuckling it!
