diet boredom?

How do you keep up the good fight and lose pounds week after week after week? I seem to always hit a slump at around the minus-30 lbs mark. In the past I just gave up and resumed massive overeating. I don't want that to happen again but I feel like my head isn't in the game. The sparkle isn't there. I give this site a lot of credit though. I record what I eat religiously.

I never gave up the foods I love, for one thing, I just made them fit within my calorie limits. That helped tremendously. :drinker:

I also focused on other things. All the while we're "dieting", we're also living our lives. I made sure I had some fun creative projects to keep my mind off food. :smokin:

I think it really depends on the person. A lot of people benefit from incorporating foods they love into their calories so they never feel deprived.

I, on the other hand, avoid those foods all together and that's what works for me. If I just stay away from my favorite "bad" foods (flaming hot Cheetos, ice cream, pizza, etc) I find that I am much more compliant and stick to my program. Having just a little bit of those kinds of foods is a slippery slope for me. I will randomly have a cheat meal but I can't fit it into my daily life. I prefer eating "bro foods"... i.e. egg whites, oatmeal, grilled chicken, steamed vegetables, etc. on a day to day basis.

I also never gave up my favorites - other than chips and dip and soda. I also would allow myself some vodka or bourbon on weekends. I would do very well Monday - Thursday so that I could do as I please on weekends.

I think the only way to not lose interest is if you dont see it as a 'diet' per se. You need to just see it as a lifestyle adjustment and thus set it out to fit your lifestyle and the things you want to enjoy in life, within reason
You can set yourself up to feel deprived all the time or you will most likely fail. If you love chocolate for example, dont completely omit it, just only havt it on occasion as within your calorie allowance etc

Its the same with exercise - choose things you enjoy. Personally i hate swimming, thus i would never force myself to do that (barring the need to sometimes do it for medical reasons)

Just remember why you are trying to be more healthy and all the benefits you are gaining from it - feeling better, higher energy levels, longer life span, positive influence on others etc :D

I think that is very wise, and something I don't think about as often as I should. thanks

Just keep trying, stay at it. Change up the routine. Just don't give up. I usually plateau every 10-20 lbs as well.

Try different recipes that include healthy foods. I found that I now actually crave my diet food. I LOVE my tomato sandwich on toasted slices of wheat bread with mustard.

I LOVE the lean ground turkey mixed with brown rice, and I LOVE my chicken wraps with the 80 calorie wraps I get. I just don't want anything else. You could put a box of doughnuts in front of me and sure they still taste good. However, making the choice between that or my food is just so much easier.

So start researching some food or recipes you haven't tried. Find the healthy foods that will keep you coming back for more. Healthy food doesn't have to taste like cardboard. You just need to venture out and get a menu together that keeps you full and motivated to keep yourself on track.

I'm lazy (which is probably why I've ended up here in the first place!!), which also means I'm not fussed about eating the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day, as long as it's easy to put together.

I also save the bigger portion of my calories for after work & dinner, so that I can relax and eat things I enjoy without having to be too critical.

Make sure you are including the foods that you like. If I had to give up all the stuff I like for the rest of my life I wouldn't bother. Fortunately you don't have to make that choice if you count calories.

Instead of going back to massive overeating, just go up to maintenance calories instead of a deficit for a while, until you decide to resume with the deficit.

    So true.

And you go through phases. After a few months I'd be like - I SO want to be done. And then it was just a habit. I eat. I log. I may do this forever - like brushing my teeth.

This isn't a diet. It's a search for awesome food and maximum enjoyment without overindulging.

I raised my cals for this month so I can really enjoy myself. I dont even hit my goal total half of the time too which helps me to understand that I may actually get this....finally! !!! But when my cals are lower I still eat what I want in moderation. It helps me push through those slumps. Also looking at my caloric intake weekly has helped too. This way, if I splurge some one day I will make up for it another day!! Just push through and rock on \m/
