I started a pole dancing class last week and i LOVE it! So far I have done it twice and MASTERED that fireman spin. I feel as though I have gotten better at it and have an easier time lifting myself on the pole now, so I feel awesome about it! The next day I feel SOOO sore though all over my arms so I am feeling it MUST be working lol. Does anyone else have any experience with pole dance, and how soon did you start to see changes in your body? I am a pear shape with fat arms that I am trying to lose, so I am hoping to see something there.

Bahaha my girlfriend took me for a "pole fitness" class the night before my bachelorette party in Miami... it was sooooo hard to walk all weekend in heels! We had some crazzzzzy bruises too! But overall we had a good time! I think your skin really just needs adjustment time to get a little tougher and your muscles need adjustment too! Its def a different ball game! I'd try it again gladly0

I just started a pole dancing class (2 classes in so far) and my arms are dead for 2 days afterward. I am not sure you will see alot of body comp changes unless you incorporate cardio into your workout routine as it is pretty much all strength training. Our instructor can do some crazy things, but she doesn't look fit and is not thin. :noway: Her legs are heavier than mine I think.:ohwell:
but it is alot of fun and worth it, just to break up the fitness boredom. :drinker:0 -
Ever wonder why men don't do stuff like this?0 -
I've been doing it for a little less than a year, and I've experienced tremendous results. It's not the only thing I do, but it's the primary thing I do (4 or 5 hours per week and 2 hours per week of barre/yoga/personal training.) I posted elsewhere about this, but the other day I decided to see if I could "just do" a pull-up on the pull-up bar at work (which I never used to be able to ) and managed to not just do one but three.
I definitely saw the most dramatic changes when I got to the point where I could start working on inversions. The lower level classes were still a good workout because they incorporated strength training to get you able to start inverting, but nothing is as intense as actually inverting. You have to engage every muscle in your body to keep yourself from falling off that pole.
Basically, my shoulders/pecs/and back are essentially all muscle at this point, as are my butt and thighs. I've almost graduated to intermediate inversions, which involves executing an eight move combo (this is three of them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sM2OVhx7wt8).0 -

I have been doing Pole Fitness for about 4 months & LOVE it. I am currently in Stage 3 (out of 7) and am just learning to master the basic invert. I noticed that the FitnessPal app doesn't have an average amount of calories burned for Pole Fitness .. Does anyone have an approximation or how do you log the exercise in your log book??
Thanks in advance for the advice!0 -
Judging by what I've seen it must be similar to calories burned during gymnastics...I mean...of course it depends on how vigorously you're doing the exercise.
I just went to an intro class yesterday (signed up for a 6 class card and probably will do more based on what I experienced in the intro class), and our instructor used to weigh over 300 lbs. She lost 120 lbs doing pole dancing for fitness. She was also extremely talented. So much fun-I can't wait to go again.0 -
