What DVD's are considered HIIT work-outs?

I hear a lot about High Intensity Interval Training and not sure what makes a workout fall under this category. Can anyone give me an example(s) of work out programs that are HIIT? Also, what makes it different fromcircuit training?

True HIIT work is simply performing high intensity full body exercises for a timed duration. Example would be Sprinting all out for 30 seconds, then walking for 30 seconds. Repeat for 10-15 minutes. Or burpees for 10-15 minutes. You won't find much in the way of DVD workouts that have you doing true HIIT. Most DVD workouts in general stray very far from the source material and only produce watered down versions of the original idea. If you want to get more into orthodox training methods, you should step away from the DVDs.0

View the clips & read the reviews. Some may not be true HIIT after all.
It's partly timing. The high intensity portion & recovery portion will vary depending upon your fitness level. Fit people can recover quicker.....workouts that have long recoveries....are beginner.
Circuit training is alternating cardio with strength.....not necessarily high intensity... and not high intensity followed by recovery.0 -

*Full Disclosure, I am a BB Coach* Turbofire is a great HIIT workout and is one I normally recommend to my customers. Les Mills Combat is great as well and is really easy to follow. I really like LMC, it's fast paced and fun. The trainers do a good job of explaining the moves, the musics great, and they actually bring some good personality to the workouts.0

Those programs are not true orthodox HIIT. They are, as I mentioned in my post, watered down in many ways and stray very far from true HIIT in may respects. They do employ the concept of interval training, yes, but not true HIIT. Why does it have to be a DVD?0 -
Damn. If Insanity is the watered down version of anything, I would sure as hell die doing whatever the real thing is. Going all out for 2-3mins intervals with only a 30 second break is hard enough to recover from sometimes.Two popular HIIT workout programs I've done:

Why DVD reco's? I'm in Chicago, I like to run, but it's getting cold outside, plus I'm better at getting up and popping in a DVD than go to the gym. . When I had a gym membership, I had a hard time actually making it there. If I dont do it first thing in the morning, it wont happen.0 -

You'll get a better HIIT workout jumping rope with a speed rope. Doesn't gotta be running but it doesn't gotta be DVDs either. You don't need DVDs to do a home workout, and you have to bear in mind that most DVDs only loosely borrow from actual training concepts and package them in a way thats more marketable.0 -

"True" HIIT workouts never last more than 15-20 minutes. Usually not even that much. And they kick your butt the same as an Insanity workout did in 45. Rest periods are typically longer than work periods (this is done on purpose because you need it if you're going at the intensity orthodox HIIT operates at during work periods).0 -
Not a DVD, but Fitnessblender.com has several HIIT routines. It really is about putting I your max effort on the working parts with some rest in between, which is why many are fairly short. If you really want to "die", I recommend their Spartan 500 workout.0
