Dry land for Master's swimming

hola . . . I'm in the pool 7-11 times a week for Master's level swimming (I work out with a team 4-5 times a week, and then pull doubles on my own time to work on drills and techniques and distance workouts). I'm looking to add weight training/dry land to the mix. I have two goals - rehabing a back injury (so things like core strength would be helpful) and increasing my max speed (i.e., sprint) in the pool. I'd love to hear from other swimmers about what has worked for them on this front. How often? What are you doing? That kind of stuff. Oh and I go to a big university so have access to everything under the sun. So feel free to recommend cardio-scuba squash playing if that is amazing.

Thanks so much!

I only swim 3 days a week, but I think that TRX has really benefited me. In fact, my swim coach is also teaches TRX.
  • Awesome, thanks! I'll totally look into that.

It's been over 20 years since I swam collegiately but we did lifting, oth nautilus and free weight. Lots of core strength exercises, rope climbing, box jumps, running, and stretching.
