Thanksgiving day I only plan to eat one plate of food and one dessert. We usually have a huge feast here! Just wanted to give you a tip so you dont totally kill your calories that day. :)

Thanksgiving is one of those days where it brings home that this is a lifestyle change. There is no reason that one can't have a little of this and a little of that, you just need to make sure that you are on target the day before, the day after and the morning of. I plan on having a nice slice of my mother's sweet potato pie and won't have any guilt at all.

I usually do a lot of work in the kitchen. This year, I will work more, and eat less! And like you, I will not eat more than one plate of food. At a time. Seriously, it IS Thanksgiving-I'm not going overboard, but I'm turning the counter off for a few hours. Also, unless somebody has a "must-have" item, I will be sneaking in somewhat healthier alternatives, which is my ulterior motive for working more in the kitchen. I guess I will still make the yams and marshmallow (really?) but I don't have to eat 'em!

Would yams and marshmallows really be that bad? Doesn't sound too fattening but then again, I don't make or eat them. I plan on trying not to pig out and enjoy the day.

We have a half marathon that we run on Thanksgiving morning. It does make it hard to have to go home and cook. but it does help with desert.
  • I haven't really made a food plan for Thanksgiving yet, it will mostly depend on if we make it to our hometown or if it is just my husband and I. I will have my pumpkin pie and have no guilt about it, but as far as everything else....for that day I'll allow myself to eat whatever I want, just in moderation.

My plan is to run a 5K that morning (while my sister keeps an eye on the turkey). I also added a huge garden salad to the menu and I will try to eat a lot of that and limit the other stuff to much smaller portions (with no seconds).
  • For me, I worry less about one splurge on the Thanksgiving meal than I worry about noshing on the leftovers. It's being a repeat offender that will get me.

I think that this year, I'm just going to make less of the high calorie things to cut back on the temptation of leftovers. I don't mind so much about the turkey, but the stuffing and gravy can't be hanging around after the big day or I will eat it no matter what I say. I don't worry so much about the pumpkin pie, my son will finish that off when I'm not looking.

Planning on eating large portions of non starchy vegetables, dulls hunger for the more fattening items.

Then just stay on plan before and after. Even if you gain a 1/2 pound that day, staying on plan before and after will quickly resolve the 1/2 pound.

I agree with kimjoan, it is about lifestyle, not what we do on the celebration days, that is the deciding factor of what we weight.
