Must admit l like the build up to Xmas, the feel good films, the wonderment in children's eyes. However l feel the day itself is somewhat of an anti-climax. Anybody else feel like this or is it just me?

As soon as I accepted that it was not about gifts but time with family that dissappointed feeling went away. Luckily I was pretty open as a kid so I expressed this immediately that I felt sad that it was over and it wasn't as thrilling as I'd remembered/expected. My parents right away swooped in with their values and I began to look at it more as a season, than a day, and as about family than as a gift grab.

You know what really might drive the point home for you? Once I went to an in-law's 60th birthday party where ppl from various states took the time to show up like a family reunion of sorts. So whenever someone arrived she gratefully and excitedly put a bow on their chest like a corsage and said "YOU are my presents, I'm putting one on everyone becauase I know It took a lot for you ALL to get here and I'm so grateful and flattered you came!" I've never felt so welcomed, appreciated, at a party. I proceeded to puke my guts out in her guest house that she graciously provided since the travel and altitude changes had given me a migraine. I still never forget her hospitality and focus on what's real and important, though. Maybe you could put bow corsages on everyone at your holiday to symbolize how precious the time together really is.

I enjoy the build up more than the day itself too.

I love the buildup, and the day. afterwards though I get kind of bummed out. we only have Christmas here with the now 3 of us(oldest doesn't come over). I love and wait for everyone to open the gifts I bought them and to see the smile on there faces. once its over I am bummed because I have to wait for another year..lol

I could do without $Mas. I don't mind making my kid happy.... but, as far as I'm concerned, adults can take care of themselves. I find the whole situation of being forced to go buy people *kitten* they don't want, so they can take it back and get what they really want, pointless. And, since I've been on MFP, it seems like everyone here considers it to be a stressful time, where people are trying to make them overeat.
