sometimes I just want to give up! Anyone feeling the same?

I already lost almost 36lbs and 5lbs to go til I maintain. but sometimes I want to just give in to temptations and just eat anything! Like I really missed drinking frapuccino, eat pizza, burgers without limit! But I know I can't and so I don't and it saddens me. :(

    Yeah, I give in all the time. And my weight loss is stalled.
    I know motivation will come back at some point, so I'm just trying to maintain where I am until it happens.

    Totally know how you feel. I think there are many people who feel like that. Maybe its a case of having treat days if you're missing food. Everything in moderation. I know it can be really hard. As it happens I'm in that zone myself of it being really hard. You'll want to eat more because it's colder and exercise is not so enticing in the colder months. Try to stay focused. I know it's hard.

    in the times when you want to grab something that you know is not smart, just remind yourself that your body can't heal itself when it's digesting food. it takes so much energy to digest food that the process of growth and repair -- all the health benefits that come along with weight loss, such as having clearer skin, a healthier heart, fewer aches and pains, more energy, etc -- all come from times that your body is not digesting food. if you're always snack and grazing, your body doesn't have the opportunity to heal itself.

    it's ok to feel nothing... we have become accustomed to feeling either full or hungry. but there is an in between... that is nothing. when you are not hungry or full, that is an opportunity for your body to do some rebuilding.

    it works for me.

    Sometimes I get tired of the doing the same thing everyday! Like, sick and tired of worrying that I might go over my calories (though I stopped logging on my food diary for a while), still the fear of eating in excess and increase my weight really worries and stresses me! I feel like I'm going nuts tracking and my world seems revolving to training, counting calories, picky eating and just can't focus doing normal thing.

    I feel like giving up more and more it seems. I hate seeing the scale not budge no matter what I do. I guess somedays it just doesn't feel worth it.
  • Now and then I have a day where I just eat what I want and go a tiny bit over my calories. See if you can make your own frappuccinos that taste great but have less calories. Also with pizza you can order a margerita and put rucola on top or a different topping so you have some control over it.

    Let yourself have one of your desired items now and then and work for it by saving calories or doing some extra fitness. Well done being so close to your goal too.

    I agree. Sometimes it feels unfair to be doing the best you can, choosing healthy foods over junks, and controlling the urge to eat as much as you want

    Let yourself have one of your desired items now and then and work for it by saving calories or doing some extra fitness. Well done being so close to your goal too.

    However, I feel guilty after indulging even on small treats, like I feel if I did just save the calories instead maybe I'll shed the pounds faster.
  • I do understand, but my advice is to try to remember that you are CHOOSING to eat healthy. If you want to eat burgers and pizza, no one is going to stop you. You are making the decision to eat well because you want to be thin. It really is a mindset thing. Try making a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight and look at it every time you feel like eating junk food.

    Totally , I've managed to take off 50 lbs or so but then I'm up or down the same 4-5 lbs for the last 9 months. I've just feel like giving up most days. I recently re-joined the gym but find myself finding excuses not to go. I almost feel burned out from counting calories & exercise. If anyone wants to help get me back on track feel free to add me.
  • I felt the same way sticking to the calorie limit and never really being able to have some of the things I enjoy the taste of, then I saw the documentary 'Eat, fast, live longer. You can eat more than normal on 3 days ( which of course would include some treats) but you still have to keep cals in normal range i.e. female 2000 cals or a little less and males 2500 cals. The other 2 days you eat a max 500 cals for the whole day. The idea is that the body goes into repair mode whilst it's not digesting food. Google it, there are many different names for it like fast/feast diet or 5:2. I'm giving it a go cause I feel at this time of year there are too many temptations and it helps me to maintain whilst having a little indulgence. Oh there are many other health benefits to this type of dieting also. I recommend watching the documentary by Michael Mosley...

    And you'll continue to have days that feel too hard and like you want to give up. The key to success is pushing through despite these down days. These days are what are testing you and what will either make or break your confidence in this journey. You need to have the faith in yourself and confidence that you can succeed. And when things get hard that is the biggest test ever and when you need to buckle down and work through it. Change up something. Your exercise, what you're eating. When your body gets used to a certain exercise it doesn't work as hard...so sometimes changing up your routine a bit can help get you through a plateau. :)

    You need to incorporate the things you hanker after into your diary, so if you fancy some pizza have a couple of slices once a week.

    Just remember as long as it fits into your calories you'll lose weight!

    This. I have been eating this way for three months and I am down 20 lbs. Add me if you like and I can help you through it. The fast days get easier and easier and I find that body actually craves them now.

    Yes, those feelings are common for many of us.

    Why give up any of the things you love and miss. Just allow for it in your daily calorie intake, and all things in moderation. A new way of life, but that is the way it has to be for me. The consequences of overindulging are no longer acceptable for me. Sad, but true, and I do miss it, but I like being a normal weight more than I want to overindulge now.

    When is the last time you had any of them? You might be surprised how your body reacts to it. I went weeks without a cheese burger then had one. I wanted a good one if I was going to blow my diet. It wasn't going to be some fast food crap. I ate 1/3 of it the way it was, then scraped everything off, including most of the cheese and finished the patty. My stomach was killing me before I was out of the parking lot. If it has been a while, it is the uncertainty of the effect that is working on you. Have some. It will fit in your calories. It fit in mine when I was at 1460, and unable to exercise at the time, and having a stationary job, I did not have the extra calories to eat back.

    Remember this is a lifestyle change. Stay away from the mayo, "Special Sauce", bacon and possible the cheese, and they aren't as bad as you think. My son makes frozen pepperoni pizzas all the time. 1/4 of a frozen pizza is 300 calories. I eat it rarely, but it isn't a killer.

    It's not about shedding the pounds as fast as possible, it's about creating a lifestyle that supports your health (both physical and mental) that you can sustain forever. One the one hand, yeah, you obviously can't eat unlimited quantities of food on a regular basis. On the other hand, feeling guilty about having the food that you like, in appropriate quantities, is not a good thing.

    I think most of us hit those hard times. As others have said, fit some of those things in when you can so they don't hold so much control over your thoughts and emotions. When I have one of those moments I try to go through a mental list of how I used to look and feel, including the way I felt about myself...then I think about the many changes I've noticed and all the small benefits I enjoy now that I've dropped some pounds. Do I really want to have to go out and buy those bigger and shapeless clothes again? Do I really want to feel more tired and less able to move as easily as I do now? I sure know the answer to those questions and they seem to help me get through.

    Moderation, moderation, moderation. I am far from an expert but I find learning new ways to cook things is great. Why not have a non-fat sugar free frappucino once in a while? I make pizza at home all the time, sometimes with a whole grain crust, sometimes with a cauliflower crust. I top it with low fat cheese, turkey pepperoni and lots of veges. It is fun for the family too. I have kids and they love making their own pizzas and putting whatever toppings they want on them. I only buy the healthier options so it teaches them to eat healthy art the same time. I have discovered tons of burger recipes that are healthy. Last night my family had sliders for dinner. I used multi-grain rolls and they topped them as they wanted. The kids had barbecue sliders, I had buffalo sliders. Totally delicious and under my calories for the day. Don't be afraid to get creative.

    sure.

    and now and then i give in - i'll have the ice cream or snickers bars, or i'll have some extra food that isn't in my budget. but you know what? those days are becoming further and further apart and i find that i get fuller faster - so even if i go over, it's nowhere near where i used to be.

    the bottom line is that we have to get real and get mature about this if we want it to work. sure, it's fun to eat unlimitless amounts of junk food, piza and ice cream, but we know what it does to us. and it's not really worth it...

    Oh, and the looks you get from others around you when you order and eat it are priceless. You can see the envy in their eyes because you are eating what you are eating, and look the way that you do. They don't know the work you are doing to get that way. Just savor the moment. It's as good as the burger itself.
  • Yep, but I have decided to make a lifestyle choice. I don't go without anything I just have less of it. I also exercise - if I don't feel like running I walk. The burn is still logged. Stick with it.

    Sure, we all feel like that at times...but Ive found that one of the keys to success is to keep going no matterhow you feel. Sure, you change the plan and make adjustments along the way, but just don't give up.

  • I find the fast days very easy to do and I am strict with myself. Like you, I enjoy them. I think I have a bit of a problem with the feast days. I tend to have too many treats. That's why I am doing this MFP so that I can keep track of calories on those days. I haven't lost anything yet after 3 weeks but I haven't gained either. This time of year is difficult as your subconscious is being hit with sayings like " it's Christmas time you deserve a treat" and I am a sucker for fruit mince pies......
