Tricks of the Trade

Friday...had a birthday celebration with some friends ate pizza, pasta, and chocolate thingies. I also drank Sangria, Whiskey, and Beer. Saturday was a repeat performance except I didn't have any will to workout that day. Sunday is when I always spend a day out with my sons and is their call as to what to do and where to eat...movies and pizza again.

So granted, no one is forcing me to eat badly. I won't lie, I enjoy it..a lot. You see this is life for me. I'm not going to punish myself because I ate badly for three days.

One of the invaluable things that I learned early on is that I need to wear fitted clothes. A tighter shirt tells me I need to bust my *kitten* in the gym that day and for probably the rest of the week. You can't hide a couple of pounds when the buttons are getting ready to pop off.

So that said, what are your tricks? Those of you that have been successful at losing weight and keeping it off. What are some of the "tricks of the trade" for you?

I wear tight pants. Helps to keep me from overindulging too much. Wouldn't want that button to pop off and take someone's eye out.

I wear my jeans, no sweat pants, I quit all the night munching. I tell myself I am taking care of myself. I go to the gym. I eat a lot of hot sauce. Mustard in place of mayonnaise and lots of protein. I use to eat baked potatoes and salads all the time and stayed hungry. Now it is more meat and salads and vegetables. Protein bars and shakes some of the time.

I have my "go to" belt. It is the same one I had before I started losing weight. Instead of replacing it I simply notched new holes in it as I went when it got too big.

It never lies to me, Either I can wear it comfortable at notch X or Y or I can't.

So you have a 200lb man eating inside your sweats? You freak.

That's how I know it's time to hit the workouts a bit harder.

That's an excellent idea...my old belt tip would reach out behind my back. You're looking great bro.

LOL...well I didn't word that one very well!
  • I look at fat pictures of myself. I remind myself that I'm doing this for my daughter, and to also have another super healthy pregnancy in the future. Of course I have days where I'm a complete wildebeest, but I keep myself in check. This past week I didn't do so hot, but I balanced it out by staying active, drinking plenty of water and not STRESSING over it. I ended up maintaining...not bad!

You might want to get hold of the producer for the next Twilight movie. Perhaps you can make a guest appearance with your wildebeest transformation.

Seriously, I feel ashamed when I look at my fat photos. It would not be good for me. I'd probably want to go eat a cake after looking at myself.

I cleaned out my closet when I bought my smaller clothes...so if I gain anything back and can't fit into my current clothes then I'm in big trouble!!

I normally only use MFP for weight loss posts but out of the blue I posted a "before / current" pic on FB as hopefully a motivation for my FB friends. Now I use that for my own accountability and motivation...I don't want to ever post any "larger" pics on it again.

I was a yoyo dieter in pre-MPF days...too terrified of the scales going back up now that I'm at a point where I haven't been since my early 20's. Each decrease is a new number for me and creates a personal "high" .

I haven't lost a bunch of weight yet, but my biggest motivation to keep off what I have lost is the fact that I have the energy to keep up with my kids. That and my sister and I are going on our first trip together, a cruise to the Bahamas so I want to get into a bikini!

The scale - I have an acceptable range that if I'm under or over I add or reduce calories to get back in range.

Preplanning. I like to log what I might eat and hit the gym or stairs accordingly. When I go back and record what really happened I am usually pleasantly surprised.

The scale too. I try to stay in my 4 pound comfort zone.

My main weakness is chocolate. I don't like to not have it around the house because if I don't have any available then I feel deprived and am not as successful long-term. BUT-I had my husband lock up the sweets and only he has the key so the craving I just had 10 minutes ago went away because he's at work and I'm outta luck! Now if I get my workout in, I can ask for one later tonight :)
