Bruised foot

After never running in my life before, four months of gym membership and I am now running 5k on the treadmill five days a week and am aiming for 10k.
I am 50 years old, not overweight and have had no problems whatsoever until Friday last. A couple of hours after getting back from the gym, I got a sharp pain in my foot and it felt as if I was walking on a pebble. By evening my instep had turned black and the bruising extended to my three smallest toes. I have taken it easy over the weekend and today at the gym I went on the stationary bike and swam rather than running.
It no longer hurts but is still blue and bruised. Am I good to go tomorrow or should I give it more time to heal?
Is this normal?

Doesn't sound too good to me in all honesty. Rest is the best advice I could you give you. There will be other 5Ks to complete when you're 100%.
Wouldn't like you to more more damage.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.0
