I CAN'T STOP EATING

It's so frustrating! I am 5 feet tall and weigh approximately 115 lbs. I used to weigh around the 90's (it's still healthy for my height). I had surgery earlier this year, where I had to refrain from physical activity, and from that point on, I gained roughly 20-30 lbs. It sucks so much. I fell into a slippery slope to where I can no longer have my old body.

What are your methods to prevent consuming foods, especially when you're not hungry?

Keep a bottle of ice-cold water on hand, it satisfied the hand-to-mouth action. Or if I'm craving sweets, diet soda.

Lots of proteins, fats and veggies. Protein, fats and fiber will increase satiety. But if you are any kind of active, you can really get a good amount of calories. Most women I know are losing at 1700-2100 calories. It's probable that your weight loss goal is too aggressive (i.e. - your goal is 2 lb per week). For someone as small as yourself, I would have a small goal 20% less than TDEE or 1/2 lb per week and concentrate on weight training with some minor cardio. You will see much greater results through weight training than cardio. Plus it will help you recovery from your surgery and make you strong again.

I've found that my overeating is somewhat boredom driven. If I just keep eating after a meal, I find its because I'm in the house alone with nothing to do. Getting out and simply walking around a store like walmart becomes entertaining at that point. If you're house bound, look up funny videos or take a bath with music.

Of course, if you're actually hungry, I back up psulemon's answer

I was like this before I started my journey three months ago. It seemed like every 20minutes I was putting some junk in my mouth. I couldn't stop. The first two weeks were the hardest when I decided its time to change. I replaced soda with water and switched junk food to healthy alternatives such as fruit. The first two weeks this stuff tasted terrible to me, and I felt hungry...But then my body adjusted and I dont miss these bad items any more and I dont eat out of boredom anymore I eat for necessity

Up your protein and you will feel less hungry. Also make your diary public and make sure you have some supportive friends who monitor what you are eating!!

I always keep tic tacs, from what i've seen you can pretty much eat a little pack of them for only a few calories and carbs lol. If i feel like eating lots i get out the tic tacs and shovel them in ;)

I read/heard that mint sometimes can help with it.
  • Warm tea! Comes in so many different flavors that you'll never get bored, and you can always find one for what type of mood you're in (lemon ginger? peppermint? apple cider? etc). It took me a few tries before I fell in love, but now I have at least one cup of hot tea every day. The hand-to-mouth action is satisfied, and its warm and soothing. Takes away my urge to binge about 95% of the time.

If I'm truly ravenous, I'll mix up protein powder and soy milk and drink that alongside something fibrous, like apple wedges or carrot sticks. This fills me up and FAST.

These have both helped me immensely. The tough part is remembering to do them :)

Also, you may try to find an activity that keeps your hands busy when you're watching a movie or just lazying around. I'll paint my nails, and I know a lot of people have taken up knitting for this very reason.

    Good luck!

Americano with cold milk or a diet coke really helps. Sometimes I just down a pint of water with a touch of sugar-free squash, particularly the day after work out days. Spacing out your calories rather than having them in one go. Eating lots of veg instead... Especially things like fresh green beans and broccoli and mushrooms - that really fills me up and has almost no calories. Learn to cook really really well and then you really feel satiated and healthy.
