Figuring out your personal triggers for a binge can be a daunting task. I learned my triggers through the help of a therapist speciallizing in binge eating disorders. After we were able to work through identifying the cause of the problem I am finally beginning to work on how I react to my triggers. Sometimes I still binge but it is becoming less frequent. I zone out less. I am more self aware of what is happening and why.

If this is happening to you I would also recommend checking out some books on binge eating to see if anything resonates with you. I found the knowledge I gained to be helpful as well.

    Feel free to friend me!

My binges are much smaller and much less frequent then before. I did see a counselor who specializes in disordered eating for several years and that helped immensely.

Binges used to be an almost daily thing for me, and I would consume 1000s of calories. Yesterday, I was very upset (having problems in my relationship and very unhappy/angry/frustrated/unsure how to proceed). I binged on 2 chewy chocolate chip granola bars. I knew it when I was doing it and was able to stop myself before I did too much damage.

My compulsive/disordered eating/binge behavior is complex and occurs for many reasons. I am fairly adept at managing it now, but I know that it will never go away and I will always need to manage my impulses.

I have found that Geneen Roth's books are helpful in understanding binge behavior and compulsive eating. "When Food is Love," and "Women, Food and God" (not religious as it sounds) were both helpful to me.

If you have serious compulsive or disordered eating, I would highly recommend a cognitive behavioral therapist who specializes in disordered eating.
  • I binge when I'm physically tired. Some weeks I'm more tired than others. The last 3 days have been really hard to avoid binging but I've managed so far, one day at a time.

All I want is to go to Tesco and get binge food right now though!

I'm working on this binge issue, too. I think the reason I lose it and binge is that I tell myself I deserve it for some reason, usually because I'm stressed out about something. Sometimes it's because I simply like the taste of the food, and want more of that pleasure. The problem is when it catches up to my tummy. I've been trying to remember how much it will hurt to binge, so that I just don't do it. I started the "No S Diet" to try to teach me how to eat. MFP has taught me how many cals I can eat in a day, but I just couldn't figure out how to manage them. So now, I have rules, which help me. The No S Diet is simply No snacks, no sweets, no seconds, plus you can only eat one plate of food per meal. So I can binge on whatever I can stuff onto one plate per meal. I've done it too. It's ugly. But after that one plate, I know the binge is over. Only a few days into this and I'm struggling to play by the rules, but I just think this is the cure for the binges. No snacks because thats when I usually start to binge. No sweets because they trigger me to want more. No seconds so that I can't do too much damage. Anyway, I think you need to do some thinking about this, maybe journal about it. Find out why, what triggers you, and make a battle plan to stop it.
