Am I working out to much? Can't loose the weight??

For the last 3 weeks I have been working out in the morning, 6 days a week for 30 minutes of high intensity weight and cardio. Also twice a week , I do 60 minutes of RPM/Spin or Step. My calorie consumption averages about 1500 a day. I have only lost 1 lb. I am on a 90 day challenge have become frustrated. Am I working out too much????

  • You probably guessed it but you might be gaining muscle!
    Keep with the exercise
    Keep with those kcal
Don't quit or go by numbers
    You're doing brilliantly
I'm hoping for similar workout goals and calories!!
Don't get frustrated and give up hope
Some diets can sometimes be very slow
Maybe you have less lbs to lose than u think
  • I think you hit it on the head, don't follow the numbers. Others say it will take a few weeks then I will start to see a lose. Keep up your routine and know your not alone. Thank you for your comments.

There is absolutely no chance that you're gaining muscle (outside some potential noob gains) on only 1500 calories a day, let alone enough to stall the scale out............. that and it's only been 3 weeks.

There could be a few things:

You could be eating more than you think.
You're retaining glycogen/water. When you begin a new exercise regimine or increase the intensity your body retains water for muscle repair until the body adjusts to the stress.

I would guess you're seeing increased water weight from the strength training rather than muscle gains at the amount you're eating. This often causes a stall or slight gain on the scale, masking any fat loss that's happening. Some of it might be muscle, but not enough to offset the losses you should be seeing.

Are you weighing/measuring your food intake?
Are you eating back any of those exercise calories? And if so are you using a HRM or MFP/machine estimates?

How did you come to eating 1500 cals?

Are you eating back any workout cals?

Is this a totally new work out program? If you're new to working out your body will be retaining water, make sure you're drinking enough water it helps your body not retain as much.

You are not building muscle in 3 weeks on a calorie deficit.
  • 1,500... for an active male? I think you're eating far too little.
  • Never heard or thought about water weight, I do seem to experience bloating with consumption of carbo's. I will watch the calories closer and increase water consumption for flushing. Thanks
