Calorie Breakdown

MFP suggests you get 55% of your calories from carbs, 30% from fat and 15% from protein.

However, I consistently get about 25% of my calories from protein, about 40% of my calories from protein, and about 35% of my carbs from fat. Is this healthy?

    MFP's protein default is set a little low. Think of it as a minimum rather than a maximum.

    Mine are currently 30% protein, 40% fat, 30% carbs and it's working for me so far. I set the protein % so that it is 1g/lb of lean body mass and the others are mostly my personal preference.

    MFP doesn't break down Macros (Carbohydrates, Fat, Protein) very well in my opinion. The percentages you mentioned are better although I would go to a higher protein, carb and lower fat split.
  • I recognize that I probably eat too much fat, but I always meet my calorie goal. I feel like if I ate less fat, I'd feel less satisfied. Plus knowing that I can eat crappy foods (e.g., hot dogs and hamburgers) in moderation and stay within my calorie goal helps to keep me motivated.

    I can definitely eat more protein if that's what I should be doing. But that will probably decrease the proportion of carbs I eat, not fat.
