We've all heard it a ba-dillion times. We need to strength train... It's good for you... Makes you stronger... Improves your cardio... Burns more calories in the long run... Improves body composition... etc... etc... etc...
Well this cardio bunny has put it off long enough... Not that I don't like being strong and working out but I have always hated weights ... with a passion... probably stems from high school weight training class... being the only girl... having to weigh-in infront of the whole class... and lots and lots of shame..
Regardless, I WILL do my strength work outs... On a regular basis... and I WILL find ones that I enjoy... and I WILL get stronger and I WILL lose those last few inches that I can't litterally "run my butt off".
Signed,
Emily, the would rather run 10 miles then do a single push up, cardio loving, soon to be heavy lifting rock star

This is me..........love my cardio. I've finally gotten to the point where strength training is OK.....not enjoyable.....but necessary.
Good luck!0 -
Try some form of circuit training that incorporates both lifting and some cardio/plyometrics. I would recommend one of Jillian Michael's workout DVD's if you have the space to do a quick workout at home. I've tried and liked 30 Day Shred, Ripped in 30, and Hard Body. She also has a DVD that is mostly strength training called No More Trouble Zones. Maybe incorporate something like this into your routine in addition to the cardio that you already do and enjoy!0

I did not want to strength train either until I saw all pics of how a womans body could look!! I was in love with the though of having a body like that! I've learned to like it, even when I still don't know a lot. I watch videos and people and just DO it.
You CAN do this pretty lady! Find some thing that makes you happy. :flowerforyou:0 -
I've tried work out dvds but never have the motivation to work out at home. But it might be worth downloading so if I can't make it to the gym that day I can get in some sort of strength training at home.0

from what I have been reading and "learning", Kettlebells seems to be a favorite for cardio lovers. I could be wrong, but the results of those things are awesome and you can use them with intervals. I have been talking to a PT and he told me a bit about them.
Today was the first day I have ever picked them up doing a few things I was shown and I can feel it for sure!
Videos are hard for me too, but I would never brave some thing new with out watching a video just to make sure I am doing it right lol0 -

omg this is my life.
i recently read an article that said for weight loss, instead of 90% to 10% cardio to strength it should be 50% to 50%....I nearly passed out. i know strength training was impt, but come onnn......0 -
I'm the opposite, I use to never want to do cardio at all...I hurt my elbow forcing me to chill in the weight training and now I love cardio...0

I've always enjoyed cardio and the most weights I did was pushups/situps. I started back on a schedule last week and once I get my stamina where I want is (I figure 3-4 weeks from start) I do plan do start some weight training. It'll be an adventure though because it's been forever since I even attempted it. Don't know if I'll ever make it 50-50 but if I get to 75% cardio-25% weights I'll surprise myself!
Make it happen!0 -
I was the same, but started with strength and weight training and have been seeing better results. Still love my running though. Feel free to add me if you would like support0
