how long did it take you to start steady weight loss

i've been trying to become healthier/lose weight for almost 2 years now (however due to my ongoing fight with depression, i haven't been particularly succesful)
I guess my main question is how long did it take you to "get your **** together" one could say since you decided to lose weight, and really start putting in the time and the effort, and begin a steady weight loss routine?

    It was 10 years from the time I last worked out and started gaining weight that I got back in the gym and making better choices. I was busy working and putting lots of other things in the way of my health and feeling better about myself.

    I have been working on getting in shape since January. Seriously working at it since April. I am down 60 lbs and happy as heck about it.

    Once I made the conscious decision to do it, quite half a$$ing it, took about two weeks.

    I lost 32 lbs in a year, I was just consistent. Went from a size 12 bodyfat 25% to a size 4 bodyfat 16%. There were days when I would completely fall off however I would get back to it right away. I never gave up! I'm still not at goal and right now I've been off track for 4 weeks but I try and try :)

    It took me about a month to figure out what works for me, a couple months to really feel like I was in a good groove. Many, many months to read everything I could find in order to incorporate more healthy eating and to understand the process. I became obsessed with getting healthier. I am so happy that I took the healthy route, not the crash diet, pills, etc. route. Now I feel ready to make good choices for life.

    It took me a very hard time to lose just few pounds in a month time..

    I had ate clean n exercise intensively,so far I manage to lose 5kgs in 4mths. I worked out like 5-6times at gym & swim. Dont get dishearten, it's all up to the muscles and metabolism of the body. ; )

    I started this very gradually, making a series of small changes. I only started taking it seriously after I noticed that I'd lost over 20 pounds, which is the most I'd ever lost in a weight loss attempt. At that point, I realized that I could set a goal and accomplish it, and I joined MFP and started getting into strength training.

    identify why you haven't been successful. Yes, you are depressed, but what exactly is the depression doing to stop you?

    Do you eat when you feel low? Do you take medication that stimulates your appetite? So essentially are there issues that make it hard for you to stick to a calorie deficit? Would it help to have a smaller overall deficit?

    Do you have problems staying focused on counting calories? I.e. do you get so low that you just don't want to get out of bed and do anything? Is the weighing and measuring just too much? Would simply eating half or 3/4 of your normal portion be easier?

    I am hesitant to mention the Atkins diet, because yes you can eat as much protein as you want without counting calories, but you can't eat any (many) carbs and for me it left me without energy and made my brain go fuzzy for the month I tried it, so if you are already low energy from your depression it might not be good for you either, but I don't know.

    You might have noticed I didn't mention exercise. Whilst I think exercise can be really helpful is improving depression (and your fitness and general health), your diet is actually the most important thing to sort out for weight loss and if you get overwhelmed easily then doing everything at once might just be too much and you collapse in a heap.

    Lastly would something like weight watchers might work better for you since it has meeting where you meet people and are held accountable that way?

    Are there any food that trigger your depression? I am not speaking from experience, but some people seem feel better after they cut out wheat or dairy or whatever, so it might be worth researching.
