I broke my fibula but don't want to stop exercising...help!

I made a personal goal to work out every day that I eat...so every day. Mostly cardio with some light weight training. But, I tripped on Thursday and landed on my foot wrong and broke my fibula. I need to find ways that I can work out and get the cardio I need while my leg heals. I don't have access to a pool, but I do have a gym. I don't even know if they have a arm bike machine, or if that would even give me the cardio. I can do upper body stuff. But, I am strictly non-weight bearing so even a stationary bike is out for right now.
I really don't want to lose track of my goals, and if I don't work out then I am going to have to seriously limit my edibles...and I'm not good at that. I love to eat! (I eat pretty healthy for the most part...but I still love to eat!) I am open to any suggestions for things I can do to stay as active as possible while my leg heals.

So what exactly is your goal? To book workouts or get healthy? Healing your leg, and doing it properly should be objective number one. Once you've done that, then you can focus on the workouts. What you can do in the short run is eat properly and do what you need to do to get your leg healed.0

I broke both bones in my left leg and have had 2 surgeries to repair it. I specifically remember the doctor telling me to rest. I remember about 8 weeks after the surgery I tried doing too much walking in my boot. It resulted in a longer healing time. Also, the stress that is put on your body when you are recovering from an injury causes you to swell. It is very uncomfortable. I suggest you just really watch your diet closely and recover properly.0

Heal now and reach your goals sooner. The last thing you want is to cause more damage and be out of action for even longer. In the long run (perhaps I shouldn't mention running at this stage), it'll help to develop your willpower anyway.0

You guys are right. I know you are. I just really don't need this right now! We have a vacation to Jamaica coming up in February and I want to be able to zipline through the jungle and enjoy myself. So, I really do need to take care of it now. It's just so frustrating. It's going to be hard to watch what I eat too when I may have trouble getting to the market to get the fresh food I need (we are expecting a major storm) and I hate to ask my bf to do more than he already does. Plus, I start a massage therapy program in a few weeks. I need to be able to do an externship. I am going to have to see if there is any way they can work with me so I don't have to try to carry around a big massage table. I just won't be able to do it. I know there are so many people who have it worse, but I'm feeling kinda sorry for myself right now. :ohwell:0

Your body is already in crisis mode trying to mend a serious injury, so trying to stick to any kind of fitness routine is a bad idea in this situation. Your body will have an even more difficult time trying to heal when you are putting additional strain on it, and you also run the risk of more serious injuries.
While I understand totally your drive to train, under these circumstances it is a recipe for disaster.0 -
To be honest--in late September I hurt my knee and ankle from too much walking/running. I ended up taking about 3-4 weeks off from exercising. I actually lost more weight in those weeks. So don't fret. Do as best as you can, and enjoy Jamaica!0

Actually, that really sucks. :frown: You sound pretty dedicated, so do what you can instead of eating bon bons and sitting on the couch. Healing is your first priority though, or this will just drag out longer.0 -
 Haven't seen this movie in years.0
