I'm trying to eat a healthy low carb diet. How many carb grams do you eat?

My endocrinologist & diabetic educator recommended for a woman trying to lose weight to limit carbs to 45 per meal, with a 30-45 carb snack. If you are trying to maintain, raise it to 60 per meal, if you are trying to gain, raise it to 75 per meal.
Losing weight = less than 180g of carbs per day.
However, I recommend speaking to your physician and a dietitian before starting this type of diet. There's much more to it than just limiting carbs.0 -
I limit my net carbs to 25 grams, net carbs meaning I don't count fibre in the net carbs count. Other details of my diet is 1200 cal total, about 10% carbs, 20% protein and 70% fat. Lowering my carbs has been a wonderful turn out. Not only did I lose weigh, but my skin gas cleared up, allergies (asthma) gone, sleep better, etc.
I keep my food diary open to friends, be happy to share it with you, I will accept if you send me an invite, as it may help you. Good luck.0 -
my endocrinologist told me to eat white meat, fish and vegetables only. This is pretty hard to follow.
. I already feel better lowing my carbs. I'm not so bloated. Thanks for your advise0 -
It really depends on why and exactly what you mean by "low carb" as that means different things to different people. If you're eating in a deficit and not doing tons of exercise that would require the energy carbs provide, you could go full-on keto which would probably be in the neighborhood of 25-30 carbs/day. There are no hard and fast blanket numbers, though.
What are your goals exactly and why are you trying low carb?0 -

Yeah, it gets boring, plus I have bad cravings! My cholesterol is not terrible, but I need to raise my HDL. He said to try vegetarian. Tried it for 10 weeks or so, very monotonous as I don't like a lot of fruit.
Keep an eye on the sodium levels for a lot of 'low-carb' labeled foods. They like to sneak in elevated levels of sodium in some products.0 -
fruttibiscotti, I have the same issues. I have been so afraid to eat fat since I have done weight watchers for many years. Fat was high points. I will take a look at your diary.
Thanks,
