I'm dying to try out Zumba! Can't afford the classes though so I'm just wondering are the dvd's anything like the class, and are they worth buying?

Thanks guys!

The dvds from the Zumba website are awesome. They're a bit spendy, but you get four different workouts, as well as a tutorial.

Also, Beto (the inventor of Zumba) is adorable.
  • I haven't gotten to go to a class yet, but have the DVDs and love them. I would think they would at least give you a feel for the types of moves and music you'd be using in the class. And regardless, it's just a fun, energetic workout :)

I have noticed that in my area anyway, most gyms and organizations that offer Zumba offer the first class free so you can go and check it out for yourself. If you had lots of these to go to, you'd get at least a few free classes in, lol :)
  • Thanks guys!

I shall be adding it to my christmas list!
  • It's a lot of fun. Maybe check out some YouTube videos too to get an idea of some of the routines. (I've been an instructor for a year and a half and have lost 50 lbs) :)

I want to eventually become an instructor , did you have to attend classes to do this?

well done on loosing 50lbs! that's amazing!
  • Thanks :)

I'm down to my last 20 or so, and it's a challenge :(

Yep, but it's easy. You can find out from the zumba website where the workshops are in your area, and then just take a day long workshop, and voila, you're certified :)

I love ZUMBA! I found before my gym membership classes too expensive too - but I looked around at community centres and found there were programmes running in poorer areas with fitness classes for just a dollar! These were government sponsored to try and get people moving! Because I was a student and couldn't afford to exercise either I though it was fair if I went along, the class was BIG and just in a school hall but lots of Fun and the instructors were great. Now I am working I go at my gym but maybe there are other options around for you?

Where I live they don't do offers like that! it's a shame really, that's why I want to work out to the dvd's, and hopefully save up enough money to do some classes! It's not that expensive but it is when you have to support yourself!

check your local YMCA too if you have one. They have sliding scale membership fees and all their classes, including Zumba, are included. I pay only $35/mo for me and my son. It's my one luxury I spend on myself :)

I didn't check to see where you are located but here are my suggestions -

    (1) zumba.com - look for a lower priced class. Around here the classes are $1 or a donation of a canned good.

    (2) check your local library. Our public library has a variety of exercise DVD's, zumba included.

    (2) Youtube. There are many zumba vidoes on there.

Good luck in your search and your dedication to trying the next thing.

    My prayers are with you.
  • good idea I'll check them out on youtube
    I live in the UK
I Contacted one of the instructors and wait to see from there!

My wife is a Certified Zumba Instructor and watching the DVDs when she is studying them is GREAT...

The Zumba DVDs would be a great choice to add to any other workout DVDs that you currently have.

Best $70 I've spent in the past year! Helped me lose weight and inches. I did "lose a size in 10 days" like they claim.

I take my classes through All American. I got a good membership deal of $99 a year when I paid for 3 years in advance. It is quite a bit up front but works out to a reasonable rate when you divide it by 36 months.
