What's wrong with gym clothes?
I'm one of those types that really don't give a damn about what people think of me. It doesn't affect my life or how I live it. So my question is "what is wrong with gym clothes?"
I wear them EVERYDAY, practically EVERYWHERE, and have several pants and tops. Now yes I work in a gym, but even if I didn't, I'd still wear them! I'm not class less, have good etiquette, and am respectful of people's choices and cultures.
They're comfortable, they don't wrinkle (at least mine don't), they're not super expensive and damn I look good in them.
Do I have "dress up" clothes? Yep, but only use them for occasions like Christmas pictures, dinner dates, etc. I don't feel comfortable in them (even though I've been told I look good in them) mostly because there's not as much flexibility or stretch to them. Other than that, I pull on my gym sweats/shorts, a dry fit shirt and it's on!!!
Who agrees and if you disagree why?

You can wear whatever you want and screw anyone who says otherwise. Your wardrobe does not affect anyone else's life!
Plus, you're a badass who can smash anyone who disagrees. :smokin:0 -
You got me, buddy. My brain cells work just the same whether I'm wearing a polo shirt or an ironically-themed t-shirt.
I ain't going to meet the queen, so jeans and tennis shoes are good enough. My money is still green!0 -
I barely care what I wear, much less what other people wear.0

Not sure what there is to agree or disagree with.0

I think you're creating controversy where there is none. No, seriously.0

When I was younger I wore my dance clothes all the time during the day because I was always dancing. At night I dressed up in costumes for parties.
Now, I wear dance or gym clothes some days and my favorite jeans other days. I have "professional clothes" for when it is needed.0 -
I like dressing sharp when i go out (i do not consider gym clothes dressing sharp). Gym clothes are for the gym or when im lounging around. Persoanl prefferance0

Oh.. Bay Area men.. I was just talking to a friend about this very thing (how bay area guys are for the most part OK looking like scrubs). But whatever, wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing.
everyone has their opinion and when it comes down to it none of them are buying your clothes or volunteering to act as your personal stylist on a daily basis.
if that's your own sense of style then rock it; there really isnt anything to agree or disagree with..0 -
Definitely personal preference.
I do think it can make a difference if your partner dresses extremely different though. I sometimes go out in "gym clothes" to run errands or whatever, but I feel weird next to my husband in a polo and slacks if I'm in athletic capris, sneakers, etc. And I'd feel weird going to dinner together with me in a nice dress + sexy boots, while he was in a dri-fit tee and basketball shorts. We don't need to MATCH our styles but yeah, it's nice to have a variety of options for different occasions.0 -
Men's gym clothes (sweatpants especially) are often kind of revealing, so that's one reason not to. Don't give away the farm to everyone walking by if you don't have to, haha. But I'm a pretty conservative dresser unless I'm clubbing or whatever.0

I give up, you're going to beat me to 20K.
Making this thread was a ploy to up your count, right?

I could just post 800-900 times in this thread.
That would work.0 -

As a Bay Area man i dissagree with you0 -
I don't think gym clothes are casual clothes.
And I bet your *kitten* would look good in some jeans.0 -
My wardrobe request for other gym-goers: Please wash your clothes regularly. I mean really wash them. I hate sitting at a machine or bench and then thinking to myself "that dude that sat here before me smells like old soup."0

Yea, not sure what there is to discuss. It's just a preference.
I wouldn't wear gym clothes out to anywhere other than the gym, to work out, or if was just running to a small store to pick something up really quick. Wouldn't look twice at you if you do though.0 -
well, I guess it depends on if you're wearing that hat as well.0

Boys in sweatpants are a gift from heaven.
Just as long as you don't rag on girls who wear leggings as pants, we're all good. Everyone just wants to be comfy.0 -
i think richard simmons pretty much lives in gym clothes too, but with pizzazz0

I definitely wouldn't want to wear gym clothing every day, especially since everything I buy are shorts & tanks. Can't wear those in winter, haha. I prefer jeans & shirts.
But everyone has their preference of what's comfortable, or what they enjoy wearing, so do your thing.0 -
I'm going to go ahead and say that people probably feel uncomfortable around people that look good in their gym clothes because they personally don't. So, they feel a "If I can't look that good, neither should you" type of thing.
Most likely reminds them of what they're not willing to do to get into shape, so they feel bad about it, just because someone else was strong enough to do it and succeed, whereas they have not.
Wear whatever you like and rock it, is what I say.0 -
<Cartman voice> I wear what I want! </Cartman voice>0

I don't have a problem with it. Be comfortable.
The only time I have had an issue with someone's choice of gym clothing was actually at the gym. Let's just say, if you are a woman who's butt crack sweats profusely, please don't wear tight light grey workout pants. Just stop.0 -
Originally brought up the question because I've been asked if I own any other wardrobe. As mentioned, I do but wearing dress pants or even jeans really aren't my thing. Maybe it's because I'm spontaneous. I'll run around, jump, or do something physical at a moments notice and trying to do that with jeans on or any other restrictive clothing would hamper me.
I know some people will think it's low class showing up at a nice restaurant in gym clothes, but I don't give up comfort for style. At least after dinner, I don't have to loosen the belt a notch............my pants just stretch.

I agree, there are many days that I want to be able to active at a moments notice. I walk for transportation, I do stuff at the outdoor exercise park when I pass by. I stop by the gym when I have time, I am often on my way to and from dancing, I play with my kids and do cartwheels. So, I understand. I used to wear my dance/gym clothes most of the time as well, and even at night I would incorporate aspects of them into my nighttime clothes because I would go dancing for all my entertainment as well.
And I didn't wear jeans for years. It took some getting used to, but now I also find them comfortable. Sometimes I like to be fully moveable and other times I like to look nice and show off the body I work so hard for.
But, people also tease me for wearing black almost all the time because most of my dance clothes these days are black or navy blue. When I was younger people always commented on how colorful my clothes were. Because I would wear rainbow colored clothing and various other combinations of bright colors. I still wear a lot of colorfully striped or patterned shirts.0
