Do you Journal?

Ok I know this might sound strange, but I know that a lot of us on MFP are emotional eaters etc. I have tried things in the past to keep me busy at night so that I don't eat like taking a bath, reading, colouring with my child, going to bed early lol exercising and calling up a friend. But recently I have been really trying to get down to the reason of why I eat for comfort. I think its more than just "will power" that is going to help me get through my past and present stress. Though I am one who believes that you should live in the present and look to the future I still find myself thinking of things in the past that truly hurt me. I only really only started binge eating and dieting when I left home at 17 because of a huge conflict with my parents. If I knew now what I knew then, leaving home that young is not ideal obviously. And it seems that during that stressful time before and after I moved out, that's when I started to gain weight and started the dieting rollercoaster.
I remember when I was a child and teen I used to journal about everything. I love to write. I stopped once I turned 17 and moved out. Now yes I have had food journals since. And I am thinking maybe I should start journaling about my feelings and thoughts completely uncensored to help me move past, past events and sort through my thoughts. I am such an anxious stressed out person and its so hard to turn my brain off sort of speak, so maybe getting it down on paper honestly will help me? Yes I talk to my spouse and friends, but you know that even talking honestly to your close loved ones, sometimes to hold back so that you don't feel judged or maybe hurt their feelings.
So I am asking do any of you guys journal? Has it helped you?
Thanks for any input in advance

Hey, I only started on my diet two days ago but knowing I was going to do it I set up my profile on here the evening before. I'd found MFP years ago but didn't really use it so brought it back to life and have been writing a blog entry like a diary every day since that evening. It keeps me on track, lets me get stuff out whilat I thimk about it, and I'm hoping it'll prove useful to me further down the line when. Things get really tough. I do if for me, doesn't matter what other people think, although I've been lucky with comments so far which is nice, but it helps me writing it so if you think it'll help you go for it. You don't have to have it so other people can read if yoy don't want to

I use an awesome little app on my phone- Day One Journal. There are many phone apps, but this one is pretty fabulous!0

I don't journal much when things in my life are going good, but I try to when they aren't. I've had issues with emotional binge eating (yesterday) and journalling helps to keep that from happening. Not to mention it helps to keep me from taking out my less positive emotions on my family and friends!!! They're awesome and don't deserve that.0

I journal the old fashion way of pen and paper on a daily basis. It helps me clear my thoughts and helps release some of the stressful days. Once I finish I can relax and go to sleep and not worry about food so much. If after I journal and I'm still wanting food I will have a nice tall glass of cold water and then go to bed. That always seems to help with the hunger cravings.0

Absolutely. I am not very consistent with it, but when I remember to or force myself to do it I am usually able to fight off whatever negative action I am tempted to take due to negative emotions.0

I try to journal daily (not a food one, just a general one). It gets the crap out of my head so I can focus on the important stuff.0

I used to think I was an emotional eater, like ANY emotion I have is satisfied by stuffing my face. After doing a lot of inner monologue, I've come to the realization that boredom and depression are my two toughies. I can control myself when I'm happy or excited, but when I'm feeling down or pms'ing, I want nothing but junk food, and a lot of it. When I'm bored I just want to eat to give myself something to do. Working on that one pretty well by finding other stuff to occupy my time.
Dunno what to do about it when I get down. My motivation vanishes and I can't get out of it for a day or so, and it's worse when it's PMS-time.0
