Just wondering if it is okay to go over the daily recommended amount of fiber. I know fiber is good for you but im sure too much is not good just like everything else. Anyone have any facts about fiber for me?

Unless you have some sort of rare health condition that would be adversely affected, going over on fiber is NOT a bad thing. Actually, it can be a GOOD thing as fiber helps you feel full longer, and aids in the digestion process. To make sure you don't create an unpleasant gastro-intestinal "experience" for yourself, add your fiber a little at a time. A sudden spike in fiber can produce side effects you would rather avoid. Also, it is VERY important to DRINK plenty of water!!

Edited to add that the MFP default for fiber is rather low, so it isn't difficult to exceed it. I bumped my goal up a bit.

Well, the amount of fiber in foods actually cuts down on the total NET carbs you consume. I'm usually always over on fiber. I think the only side-effect of too much fiber would be excessive gas.

In my nutrition classes, I've been taught to aim for 14 grams of fiber per 1000 calories per day. And the upper level limit seems to be about 50 grams. The dangers of too much fiber are basically diarrhea and dehydration. Some people will feel excessively bloated or gassy before the 50 grams. So, as long as you aren't feeling like you are experiencing any of the side effects of excessive fiber, you should be fine.
  • too much fiber (excess of 50g) + low in fluids = constipation :(
