Toning/tightening skin????

Does anyone have any suggestions for aid in tightening skin as we lose weight? I have just recently started on my weight loss journey so I dont know how my skin is going to react to the weight loss as of yet. I will admit that from my pregnancy with my son I have stretch marks on my stomach and I just dont want to end up with a nasty wrinkled stretch mark covered skin.... I know that the stretch marks are there and that unless I see a specialist or something they arent going to be gone completely but I am only 25 and have hopes of maybe one day being able to wear a bikini again.... Any ideas or advice from personal experience would be great! I know that they say your skin will shrink back down on its own as you lose but I guess its one of those things that I have to see to believe. I started this weightloss journey at 220 (my heaviest) and want to eventually make it down to 140-145 and I just cant see my skin tightening up after that much weight loss????

You need to exercise. both cardio and weight bearing. there are lots of good programs out there to help with it. Right now I am using Chalean Extreme. I am a coach with Beachbody and have used several of their programs. THere are so many different programs. I am sur eyou can find one you will like. Lots of fun trainers out there right now.
A healthy diet helps a lot. Exercise is a small part of it. Eating proper nutrition is key.

I agree. I know I've still got lots of loose skin and (gasp) cellulite from the last time I lost a bunch. I'm looking for tips on this one too.0

I understand that I have to exercise as well as eating healthy. I am doing both of those. I was just wondering if that alone is enough to do the trick or if there was something else I could do to help as well... Thanks for the feedback!0

I hear you, I am in the process of trying to lose my tummy too. And it makes me wonder if I can get rid of the lose skin. I exercise every day....and although I do see a little improvement, not enough to make me feel secure about getting rid of the lose skin altogether. But keep up the good work you can do it!!!!0

At your age, your body is still good on collagen. If you reduce your weight slowly, do strength training as well as cardio, keep your fluid intake up and eat the good foods i.e. veggies and fruits, you will likely not have the saggy tissue left over. Just don't get too anxious and remember to eat healthy.0 -
My advice: loose weight gradually (about 4-5 lbs month). The production of elastin and collagen decreases during the aging process making it more difficult for the skin to contract. Sagging skin, depending on how much, can be helped by laser treatments and as a last resort, surgery.0

My OB said to lose weight in the healthy way (ie SLOWLY) and work out and WATER!!!0

Yikes! All of a sudden I see that my thighs are getting kind of bumpy. What can I do to smooth them out again? I'm in my late 30's and never thought I'd get cellulite so young!
Cellulite doesn't discriminate. It can show up on girls in their teens--or younger. That's because, despite what you've heard about cellulite being some mysterious condition linked to "trapped toxins" or poor circulation, cellulite is simply old-fashioned fat. It just looks different because of how it's arranged.
Everyone has strands of connective tissue that separate fat cells into compartments and connect fat to skin. In women, these fibers form a honeycomb-shaped pattern, so any increase of fat tends to bulge out like stuffing in a mattress. You see less cellulite in men because their fibers run horizontally, forming a criss-cross pattern that prevents bulging or dimpling
Though cellulite can pop up any time, it is true that cellulite does seem to appear out of nowhere and get worse with age. That's because our tissues change. Those strands of connective tissue thicken with age, and our skin gets thinner, making cellulite more noticeable. More importantly, we gain fat with age. The average woman loses 5 lb of muscle and replaces it with about 15 lb of fat every decade of her adult life, says Prevention advisor Wayne Westcott, PhD.

I did just google American Laser and they have a lot of complaints ranging from not providing the service they said they would provide to actually causing pain and skin damage to the clients. I would not recommend that corporation for sure. As for laser treatments - I think that at 20 something years old, if she eats healthy, drinks fluids, loses the weight at a healthy rate, and does both aerobic and strength training - she will likely not have an issue with saggy skin. The cellulite will also like decrease over time if she continues to eat healthy. Stretch marks, however, will likely remain.0 -

I also saw that there were a bunch of complaints about American Laser. I dont plan on going that route anyway. I was hoping to do it all naturally and not have to worry about spending tons of money with treatments. And I am aware that the stretch marks will remain, I think I am going to try the mederma stretch mark therapy and see if I can at least reduce the appearance. Thanks everyone for the posts so far, I am finding that majority rules here and hopefully I will be ale to tighten skin as I lose if I just keep doing what I am doing by working out, eating healthy and drinking lots and lots and lots of water!0 -

I'm hoping that being over 44 gives me a little chance of NOT having any major skin removal surgery. I'm having to lose 125+ lbs and am 69 pounds down....I just noticed the saggies starting above my belly button the other day and I already have the saggies at the bottom of my belly.0

I'm definately gonna have to try the dry brushing as well! I have 3 kids and had C-sections with all mine. My stomach is a problem area for me to say the least. With the almost 16 pounds I have lost, the only place we (me and my husband) see it is in my chest and my rear....go figure LOL But I'm definately intrigued by the dry brushing idea!

VIBROPLATE training. It's genuinely brilliant, if you do it properly. That and drinking plenty of water to flush out toxins.0

I recently had someone suggest that, once I get to my target weight, I get one of those full body girdles (like the ones patients wear post-lipo) to help redistribute and shrink saggy skin. Any thoughts?0
