Warm Before the Storm- It was 80 degrees here today; by tomorrow night we will be in the midst of a winter storm (or so they promise). We got out and rode in case we can't ride for a while.

The sky has that look that it gets late in the fall, when change is imminent.

Wow, did that turn out to be prophetic. No riding since then; instead we had this on Thursday, Friday and Saturday:

To slippery to even walk, let alone ride.

I've been keeping track of your weather, Paul, because I have family not tooooo far from you. (Canton to your east and Stephenville to your south). They're getting cabin fever with all of the ice hindering travel.

Okay, you guys who really ride, check this out: http://www.openculture.com/2013/12/turn-your-bike-into-an-electric-hybrid-with-mits-copenhagen-wheel.html It sounds really cool.

This looks like an awesome thread and challenge! I'm going to have a goal of 150 miles- I have finals coming up AND the weather isn't really in my favor this time of year.

    Currently at:
    30 miles
    35 minutes spinning

This cold snap is killing me.

I have no problem with cold per se, but the ice made the roads terrible and I really don't want to go down and break a second bone this year.

70.18 miles as of today. Not sure if I can make it to 150 miles by the end of the month (finals + weather have been making it difficult) but I will most definitely try. Weather was pretty warm today so I took full advantage of it.

Finally got riding again after all that frozen stuff. We had our Night Rider Christmas Party on Sunday, and afterward I rode over to the tree downtown before heading home. I rode my commuter bike. Later in the ride I hit a muddy trail so now it's a big mess.

Tonight, back to the fixed gear bike. This pic is in a sketchy industrial area. I didn't stop long and get a perfect shot.

Rollin' on the River: I had to work late tonight, so I couldn't do my normal Wednesday group ride. So I got 26 miles in solo. I stopped along the way at the bar where the Night Riders finished their ride and had a bite to eat with them, but for the ride was strictly solo.

The homeward leg of the ride was into a wicked headwind.

    Bonus haiku describing the weather:

    Heavenly zephyr
    Caressing my back outbound
    Hellish ride homeward

At 96.18 miles as of today. Runkeeper is having problems for me and seems to lose the GPS signal halfway through my ride and doesn't measure my distance properly :( I have to see if I can fix that. Thankfully my cyclocomputer does keep an accurate distance of my ride.

It seems like different apps work better or worse for different people, maybe depends on which phone you have. I got tired of Sports Tracker and Endomondo always messing up the altitude data. Strava gets it right, but they don't have a Windows Phone app. Runtastic does and it gets the altitude right. In my experience, it's reasonably tenacious in keeping track of my position. If I need to go into a building, though, I make sure I pause it. When I restart it, I make sure I have a good GPS sync first.

This is what Night Riders look like. A group shot from tonight's chilly ride. That's me in the lower left in the yellow jacket.
