How Does Plain Greek Yogurt Taste?

Hey guys! So I really want to switch to plain greek yogurt (right now I mainly consume Chobani 0% Vanilla)but I'm a little hesitant because of the less sweetness. I mean, I want to switch BECAUSE it has less sugar, but I am hesitant because I know it'll taste less sweet. I plan on mixing things in like granola or blueberries or these really yummy cookies (don't worry, they're actually not that unhealthy!) : http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/soft-baked-cookies/
When you swtiched to/ started eating plain greek yogurt what was it like for you?? Also, I like greek yogurt just fine, the texture and mild tartness is fine for me, but I've just never tried the plain kind:) Thanks!

You can always add a bit of sweetener, it still won't be as many calories as the vanilla kind. Buy a small container and try it.0

I have always liked plain greek yogurt and that's the only way I eat it. I really like the taste. I'm pretty sure few people agree with me though. Try it and have a little fruit ready just in case you don't like it.0

Plain greek tastes like tangy sour cream (IMO). After you add fruit & cookies ....you essentially added the sugar back anyway...it should taste fine.0

I second this. Especially true if you eat a full fat version.0 -
I love full fat plain greek yogurt... I personally find the sweetened variety too sweet.0

Do savory instead of sweet.
Cucumbers w/ taziki sauce
Vegetable dip
Thickener for soup (make sure you temper it)0 -
Thank you everyone! I get the nonfat version though haha. Chobani 0%? That's the kind I am going to buy:) And yes haha I like sweet things but overall it will still be less sugar cause the granola, fruit and cookies I mix into my vanilla greek yogurt now, but when I mix it into the plain yogurt overall it will be less sugar:) Baby steps haha! Also it is more protein!!0

To me, it tastes like a funky version of sour cream.0

answer to question in title: Not nice. I usually add sweetener or sugar substitute to it and it actually ends up tasting like a yogurt I often had as a kid.. mmm0

Greek yogurt is pretty nasty itself, cottage cheese is the way to go! Plenty of slow-digesting protein, minimal carbs if you get a good quality brand, and tastes as good with salt and pepper as it does plain, or with fruit, or on potatos.....mmmmm...... getting hungry now!!!0

I like the tangy taste, but not by itself. I add a little bit of local honey, lots of raspberries and some sweetened dark chocolate granola ... perfection.0

Plain is like tart sour cream. I actually like dipping apple slices into it. The sweetness of the apple cuts the tart and it tastes... refreshing? And you get the fiber and vitamin from vitamin C from the apple.
But on most days, I drop in a tablespoon or two of Reduced Sugar preserves (currently using Apricot because I have half a jar left from making a Thanksgiving ham glaze!). Only because it's faster in the morning. I also top it with a tablespoon or two of granola.
Yum! Great way to get 22 grams of protein with no fat (I like the nonfat Trader Joes Greek Yogurt, if you live in the States).0 -
I turn it into a vegetable dip I like salty foods more than sweet0

I like plain greek yogurt. I like the tangy / slightly sour kick to it, but my tastebuds are wired that way. You could also control what you add to it, home-made granola is really good and keeps well in a sealed container!0

Fage 0% is amazing! A whole cup is only 100 calories and very filling! Eat it plain
Or with some honey or chocolate PB2!0 -
It really depends on the brand. Some are tart, some are tangy, some (chobani plain) I've found almost inedible bitter, some are sour. Fage and Dannon are the only two I've found that I can eat plain. Other brands require some kind of sweetener to make them palatable.0

I agree, as well.
I like full fat, plain greek style yogurt with cinnamon and 1 tsp of honey.
It actually tastes good with about an 1/8 cup of unsweetened cinnamon applesauce, too. Odd combo, to be sure, but it's pretty good.0 -

I prefer the kind with pectin added to it. Fage' tastes better to some, but I hated it. I stick with Greek Gods or the kind I get from the Lebanese grocery store.0

This link has a nice overview of most plain Greek yogurts:

My personal all-time favorite is Liberte 10% MF. It is creamy and buttery tasting. With a bit of vanilla extract and stevia it is perfection!
It is pretty high in fat though so I eat it as a treat and usually stick to 0-2%.0 -
It's bitter, but you can sweeten it with by adding honey0

Fage (my favorite) sells 5oz containers of their 0% fat & 2% fat.
I mix mine with slightly thawed frozen berries, for a real treat ill add 1/4 granola & 1TB honey !!!0 -

Yup. I've even substituted it for sour cream in things like dip.0 -
For me, eating it unsweetened it was a matter of finding the right brand. I like Chobani flavored yogurts, but I find their plain to be especially sour tasting. The only kinds that I've tried that I like plain are Fage and homemade. I like to sprinkle cinnamon on it and then dip apple slices in it.0

I really like Cabot Creek.0

I like it more for the texture...kind of cream cheesey .... The tAste I tolerate with fresh fruit and occasional flavored ones...
I use fage 0%0 -
I thought it tasted weird at first, but I put it in my protein shakes for added protein and more creaminess Now I eat it with fresh berries and almonds for breakfast as well. It's certainly an adjustment, but now I won't touch the nasty regular Yoplait stuff. Totally worth it!0
-
I mix plain Greek Yogurt with blueberries and strawberries and some slivered almonds...or a tablespoon of PB and another of a natural jam.0
-
Oh, and for something dessert...dark cocoa powder, a little sweetener (usually Stevia) and a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips.0

Like sour cream.0
