Am I starving myself without knowing it?

I eat until I'm satisfied and log it in. But I notice I don't eat enough calories but I'm not hungry. What's your thoughts or facts

I reckon you'd know if you were starving.0

So the calories I need on mfp are misleading0 -
You've given absolutely no information on how many calories you're eating and have a locked diary. You're probably not starving. You may or may not be eating enough.0
-
No. If you were starving, you would most certainly feel it. Make sure your calorie measurements are accurate-- no guessing.0

Your diary isn't open so no one can comment.0

Depends on how much of a deficit you're talking about. If you get in the habit of not eating much, you can get to the point where you're just not hungry even though you need more food.0

Yes, I've experienced this. You don't go into "starvation mode" unless you are truly starving but you certainly adjust to eating less long term.0 -

This isn't necessarily true. Long periods of vlcd can cause the bodys hunger receptors to not work. It's why anorexics can claim to be stuffed and eat next to nothing.
OP, as pp stated. Your diary is closed so we don't know what you're eating or how much. It is important to fuel the body, so if you really are under eating, I suggest incorporating more calorie dense foods into your diet to meet your dietary needs0 -

Starvation has symptoms. MFP does not provide a "starvation limit", so it's not misleading you.
If you're not eating 1200, you probably should be eating at least that much if you're a normal sized person.0 -

I assumed we were talking about actual starvation-- whether you feel hungry or not, if you were starving, your body would experience extreme hunger pains, you'd lose hair, have no energy to do anything, and basically cease to have proper bodily function.0 -
At the risk of releasing a thread riot, I'm 5'3, 100-105 pounds, VERY small frame, no exercise and can feel completely fine with no adverse effects with 1,000 calories or so a day. The problem? I'll binge about once a week on 3,000 calories, so my daily intake is more like ~1,300 a day, which just so happens to be perfect for me! I dunno, I believe in calories over short time frames than per day, but that's just me. If you're "starving" on some days and over doing it on others, your weekly average is probably higher than you'd think and you're not really starving at all.0

Oh. So anorexics aren't actually starving? I dont quite understand what you're implying by "assumed we were talking about actual starvation". That is actual starvation...0 -
What's your thoughts or facts
My thoughts are that I didn't get fat because I "wasn't hungry". If you are here to lose weight, believe me, you can eat enough to meet your MFP requirement.0 -

OP, could you just open your diary so we can really help give a good opinion instead of argue about what starvation means? :flowerforyou:0

Exactly this. These threads never cease to amaze me.0 -
Starving is a pretty over/inappropriately used term.
OP, if you want some help determining your calorie goals you'll have to post some more information like your body stats and activity level. And calorie goals/tracking is worthless without measuring... READ AS WEIGHING... everything you eat or at least as much as you can. People often underestimate how much they eat especially with the eye ball method and overestimate how much they burn when exercising.
www.fitnessfrog.com has some helpful calculators for determining how much your body needs for maintaining your weight and an estimate of how much you can eat while losing weight.0 -
I have days when I don't really get hungry, but I've feel tired/weak and that's how I know my body needs some more fuel. Use other cues than stomach hunger pain to determine if you need food.0

You definitely need to eat more. I don't know how you're not hungry - you barely eat and when you do it's not the best choices. Most days I saw were in the 500-800 calorie range.0

If weight isn't melting off of you, you aren't starving yourself.0
-
Are you logging all of your food? Don't know how you could eat that way. I'd gnaw off my hand.0
-
How are you choosing your diary entries? Do you weigh and measure your food? I see like 2 oz of meat and generic "medium bananas". At first glance, it seems like not much but it depends on how accurately you log. Do you log everything?0

" no exercise and can feel completely fine with no adverse effects with 1,000 calories or so a day. The problem? I'll binge about once a week on 3,000 calories, so my daily intake is more like ~1,300 a day, " Quote from a post above...
This sounds like a new diet 3 in 1 and 1 for 6 simple numbers really....and your closer to 1400 per day
Maybe get a sign that says 3116 and hold it up at NFL games down by the goal stand and grow some fuzzy freaky hair...who knows? It's been done before...yes this post was made drug and alcohol free....0 -

Well dinner was skipped cause I didn't have access to my fitness pal at home until recently amazing me not log in everything but undid eat dinner. And I normally long in everything for breakfast since am too lazy to look it up again0 -
Probably not.
Get a food scale, so you have a better idea of how many calories you are consuming. I only saw a couple of low days, but you might not be hungry because you are under estimating calories consumed.0
