Well, where to start?

My name's Matt. My wife has been on here for a while now, and her results are awesome. I figured I should start taking better care of myself. Especially since I just got married, and we're hoping to start a family in a year or two. I would like to still be kicking when I have grandkids!

I work in IT, so I do a lot of sitting during the day, but I try and get up and walk around a few times during the day. One of the biggest things in IT is sitting and snacking. I've always had a bottle or a can of pop on my desk and some sort of snack. Whether its chips, or cookies, or veggies, or even a 2nd lunch... Heck, I could easily drop $20 at McDonalds.

But that's all going to end. My wife is going to be a huge support and really help me with this. I'm going to try walking again during my lunch, although that will be coming to an end pretty soon (the walking, not my lunch) as winter is on our doorstep, but I will be walking to and from work (about 12min), and I may start using the stepping thingy that we have at home more often which should help.

My goal is to drop my weight down from 260 to 200. I hope to have hit my mark, or even gone under it a bit by next summer. Planning on driving to Ontario to visit family and friends...

I just got married on Oct 2, myself. We are planning on having a few children coming up here in the new year or two. I work in the food safety field, so I am around food all the time and on the road a lot. I have the goal of dropping around 70 lbs and really am starting fresh today. The wedding and honeymoon really didn't set me up for success and I really need to stick to this site and plan through the holidays.

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing you progress over the next few months.

Welcome Matt! You can do this & it will be even better since you and your wife are committing to it together and you will have one another as support. . .and the other one won't be bringing so many unhealthy foods home to be sitting in the cabinet tempting either one of you! Congrats to you & her on the wedding, and what a great healthy way to start your new life together!!! :flowerforyou:

Hey Matt...You can do this. I work an office job as well where I am stuck sitting in front of a computer all day. At my heaviest I was around 255 (this past Jan when I quit smoking) then dropped to about 235 a few months ago. I just finally broke the 200 mark yesterday. Get yourself motivated, keep track of what and when you eat to see what patterns there are and most importantly, get active. Start slow but get exercise. It really does do wonders. I know ya can do this...Best of luck and drop a line if you ever need advice. Patrick

    Hi Matt

I'm in a similar position myself where I spend a lot of working time sat around - or at best, pacing very slowly around the room keeping an eye on people. So here's what I do.........................

    Have breakfast
    Walk to work
Have small lunch - usually taken as an essential item with the laptop!
    Walk back from work
Go to the gym for 30 minutes to an hour
Clean up in the shower / bath
    Have Dinner
    Walk it off.

It does work as long as you don't go daft with the calories. Towards the end of the day, I check my diary, and then I do extra exercise to burn up any calories that my food diary says are too much! That way I can always end the day under my target, even if only by a few calories. It's all about discipline and recording calories / exercise as honestly as you can.

You could always try WALKING there LOL Think of the calories you'd burn up ;0)

    Good luck with it

I've actually looked up the distance and time. If i had about a month and a half, and lots of spare money and some awesome walking shoes, I'd totally do it. Get a solar cell on a backpack for portable media, streaming radio would be perfect, stay at motels and eat at diners along the way...

But the blisters, OMG the blisters I'd have at the end...

Hmm... maybe not a good idea...
