Oh my freakin' God!!! It's going to snow!!! In the Wisconsin!!! In Winter!!! Everyone ruuuuuuuuuun!!!

At least this is the way the news/weather report is making it out. Granted, if we get 8" of snowfall it will mean taking a lot more time to get places. However, it does this every year in these here parts. Are we suppose to be shocked, or surprised?

News stations learned long ago that crisis sells so everything is now ramped up to crisis mode. It's a side effect of trying sell commercial time in an environment of 24 hour news cycle.

Meh. I worry when it gets to 12" in one stormfall total. Some friends in Michigan along the lake get 2' at a time.

Yeah, we got a couple of inches of snow yesterday in the Seattle area. Snowmageddon if you go by the local media - they even pre-empted regular programming for continuous coverage. It's melted now.

Come to Alabama where the word "snow" makes people run to walmart and buy all the bread and milk on the shelves.

No kidding...and they're still not even positive where it's going to track. Lame. I saw my alert pop up for "winter storm warning" and thought :noway: and then saw what the predicted totals were and though "oh rly"

I think it's because of the bad 40 car pileup on I-94 a few weekends ago when we were only supposed to get 2 inches of snow. Now everyone hears the "four letter word" and thinks "death".

Yep. We have the same issue here. People have been making a run on the grocery store all day. It's only snow people. Just drive slower, and you would be fine.

See, us here in the UK have reason to fear the dreaded snow..more than a light covering and the whole country grinds to a halt...shaming.

We get slightly hysterical about a bit of wind too, and have all sorts of hurricane/tornado warnings...and usually it isn't enough to ruffle anyone's feathers. ... :)

Yeah,. I remember when I lived in Port Orchard, there was 1 inch of snow on both February and March 1st. The town was a mess. There were accidents everywhere, and the schools closed, and I was driving around wondering WTF is wrong with you people?

I think the milk, bread and egg folks are in a nefarious plot together to get us all fat! Snow = French Toast!

I was actually in the middle of the 2 mile stretch of accidents on I-94 that Sunday. Another person I know was actually involved in the accident. They had to cut him out of his car (amazingly no serious injuries on his part).

I can tell you that people were driving entirely too damned fast in whiteout conditions. 4 wheel drive helps you go. It does not a damned thing for stopping.... :grumble:

Not like that here in Canada (well at least where I am) 8 inches of snow is nothing

unless its an insane' homeless people are literally freezing to death on the streets' storm the news is not very dramatic about weather

Lmao anytime there's a rainstorm here in Phoenix, AZ thats the MAJOR story on the news. Like out of the hour and a half of news, the weather will take up at least half of it, like wtf REALLY??? Every single time

As someone pointed out above, our constant news cycle thrives on sensationalizing everything... It is flat out annoying. Give it another month, when everyone is re-acclimated (this part kills me), and they won't make quite as big of a deal.
