So far to go!

Hi, Im from the UK and have around 6 stones to lose. I did lose 2 1/2 stones 2 years ago, by being careful with what I ate and walked loads. I stopped losing after around 6 months and lost the determination. I have put most of it back on and feel rather foolish for giving in. Its not easy is it? I have made myself a goal to walk a 24mile Charity walk in September 2014 and aim to lose at least 1lb per week. I am really pleased I have found this website as it is free and really informative.
I would absolutely love to have a buddy or two to help when things get tough. Its hard sometimes to have the belief that you can lose the weight and keep it off!
I would really enjoy being a buddy to others giving them inspiration, encouragement and empathy when needed.
My biggest problem is bingeing in the evenings. I can be in control all day and lose just before bedtime. Its so frustrating and lonely at times as my family really dont understand.
Thank you for reading, WalkingLady!

Welcome to MFP, don't think so much about how far you have to go. Think of what you can do today, goals for the week, and month. When I started if I focused on I have to lose 140 lbs I probably would have given up, but I can focus on losing 1 lb this week, riding my bike further or faster than last week, lifting improved from last week, etc.
Since you like to snack at night, look at your diary and find a way to work a night time snack in. I eat ice cream or cookies almost every night and if I took that away I would be raiding the kitchen eating everything. The amount I allow myself changes every day depending on how the rest of my day went, but there's always something in there.
Losing does not have to be miserable, you just need to learn portion control, moderation, and for you keep walking!!
Good luck!0 -
Mini goals is the way to go I find
I'll send you a friend request0 -

Hi There!
Your goal to lose is about what I have left to lose - Want to do it together?
I also am shocking at night times... I have a closed diary while I am 'getting on top of things' (explained below) - and - often find myself not tracking at night ... Much to my own detriment I am sure!
(I have recently really assessed my eating habits, and what works for PCOS & thyroid issues - including realising that I need to increase my calories (had been on approx 800-1000 for about a year and a half prior for medical reasons & with supervision)
After lots of research, have realised how messed up this can make ones body, So am ensuring I stay under maintenance calories while i learn how to incorporate all these great 'condition friendly' foods into my diet. Then will go back down to a deficit- I aim for the new year as I feel I am almost finding a good balance now & come in under maintenance most days)
I must admit - I don't really see it as an attempt to lose weight - For me, it is an attempt to get my body healthy & well again & I figure - in doing that - Hopefully the weight will start to come off too. Its a life change.
Hope to hear back from you0 -

If it is at all possible take up an evening class of yoga or something similar. It's not too strenuous and keeps you away from the kitchen! Also I have to say it's hard but nothing worth doing is easy! And just as an aside, 'got so far to go' is the name of a song on the Hairspray soundtrack - I like to finish a workout or run with this song playing to remind me why I will come back and do it all again!! Motivation music - works so well. Goodluck xx0

hey. i think it's great you've set a good long term goal. walking 24 miles is no easy task.
as far as binging in the evening goes... why don't you make it work to your advantage. obviously you want to eat more at night, so just eat less during the day. personally, i love a big dinner. therefore i tend to have a small breakfast, if i even eat at all in the morning.0 -
It is definately not easy for most of us.
This site has been an enormous motivator for me. When I feel like eating more than I should, I log in to MFP and read the success stories. It helps me stay focused.
Do you have a fitbit? I got mine last February and absolutely love it. It is my number one motivator to move more.
Best of luck to you!0 -
Not only loving the support this thread offers but all the great tips too!!!0

I would be happy to be a Buddy with you! My two buddies have taken a break for the holidays and I love having someone to check on and see how they're doing and cheer them on and vice/versa. I live in the U.S. and have been doing myfitnesspal for six months. I have quit bingeing finally after all this time. I'll be honest....a lot of prayer has really helped me be successful...If that's too weird for you I understand...but it's the truth. Anyway, I would be happy to work with you!0

Hi! I've just started here too and have the same amount of weight to lose, after yo-yoing for a few years. Would be happy to friends, have sent a friend request. We can do this! x0

Hi, I'm also from UK (55 years old) and use walking as my main exercise - I have a fitbit flex to assist with monitoring. Please feel free to add me for mutual support/motivation0

Thanks everyone for your support, and I really mean that. I started to really think of how I did it last time. This is what I have come up with.
1. Making short medium and longer goals that are achievable.
2. Never going hungry.
3. Making a mood board with lots of inspiration quotes and pictures.
4. Get fitter every day by challenging to walk further, quicker.
5. Having a treat in the evenings to look forward to.
Going to start my Inspirational Board tonight. I print off lots of quotes from Pinterest.
Just one question, DO YOU EAT YOUR EXERCISE CALORIES AS I FEEL THAT I WANT TO SO THAT I NEVER GO HUNTRY? ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!0 -
Feel free to add me, Im always looking for support. Im on alot thru the day and my diary is open0
