Well, he did invent the most versital rifle of the modern era. Millions of people have been oppressed or liberated due to the tool he created.

His influence on the 20th century will be inmeasurable.

the AK-47 evolved from the MP-44.

it wasn't anything particularly new or revolutionary.

I know a dude that made an AK47 from a shovel. Can't do that with a purty little ebr.

I'd say, Kalashnikov's impact has been quite significant, both good and bad. That rifle of his will continue to be a tool for liberation for generations to come.

considering the mp44 is the StG44, which was revolutionary, the AK47 evolved the design and made it extremely rugged, as well as easy to mass produce which the germans could not. (luckily).

There are a lot of useful, new innovations built into it, and it's a testament to the soundness of the design that it's still in current use. If you look at other military rifles design in 1944 - 1945, how many are in current use? I personally know of none.

It was quite new, quite revolutionary, and quite well designed. It's an amazing battle rifle. I think I might want to build one from a shovel or some pot metal some day, so it has no serial, and it "doesn't exist".
