Habanero sauce - zero calories?!?!

I got given a bottle of D.L. Jardines Blazin' Saddle Habanero Pepper Sauce XXX Hot for my birthday. The label says 1 kj (0 cal) for a 5 g serve. How on earth is this possible? There is quite a lot of sodium but negligible calories. The ingredients are Habanero peppers, fresh carrots, onions, lime juice, vinegar, garlic, and salt. Does that sound even remotely right?

I'm not so anal that I'd log 5 calories. But I think it is more like 50... and I would have 4 serves.0

find something similar in the data base or do a quick calorie. How much do you plan on putting on?0

It's a 5 gram serving, and you think it has 50 calories? If it were pure fat, it would only be 45 calories, and none of the ingredients you list has fat in it.
5 grams of chili peppers (habaneros) have about 2 calories
5 grams of carrots have about 2 calories
5 grams of onions have about 2 calories
5 grams of lime juice have about 1 calorie
5 grams of vinegar have less than 1 calorie
5 grams of garlic have about 7 calories
5 grams of salt have no calories
So if it were almost entirely garlic, with just trace amounts of all those other ingredients you listed, the max amount of calories in 5 grams would be a little less than 7 calories. Probably there is more habanero, carrots, onions, lime juice, and vinegar, and it's more like 2 calories for a 5 gram serving.0 -

Ok that makes more sense. Apart from the salt content, it is a fantastic condiment for my diet . Spices up the most boring of foods.0 -

Pretty close. Most peppers are negligible calories. Is it really "zero"? Probably not but you would have to eat an awful lot of it for it to make any difference at all.0
