Hi

I am not sure where to begin. I am 39 years old and I am from South Carolina. My problem is my abs. They are the target area that I wish to lose. I would be less self-conscious if I were to lose that part of the body and gain some weight in my backside. I am self-conscious because I have a huge stomach but a small, wide butt. What are the best exercises for a beginner such as myself? Oh, I also have a binging problem so I have to lose the weight and I am diabetic. Should I take care of the binging first before I try to lose the weight? Here are some pics that will help you answer the questions:

Welcome to MFP! A start is a start, no matter what you decide to take on first. I would begin by increasing activity and logging your food choices. Weight loss is about food and diet. Fitness is about activity and exercise. However, binging is usually about self esteem. So learning to love yourself as well as your body is just as important. There is a lot of great support on this website. Use it and try not to get discouraged by the natural ups and downs related to weight (we all flux within a certain amount of weight due to normal weight flucuations throughout the day and for woman throughout the month). Good luck on your journey!!

Oh, and to answer your questions you can't spot reduce. But there are excellent exercises that focus on building the muscles under the butt that might help you toward the assests you desire. For example, squats and lunges. There are workout videos that focus on almost nothing but is assest ;).
  • Hello. Start with walking and work your way up. Welcome and good luck :drinker:
  • Walking would be a great start; you need to burn calories to shrink your stomach. Squats will help with your butt.
