Hello all!!
I am a 46 year old male. I've been heavy all my life. I currently weigh about 325 pounds. Apparently the fact that I have type 2 diabetes and an 8 year old daughter, is not enough to motivate me to lose weight and stay healthy. I don't know why those two don't motivate me. I know that I want to be there for my daughter, and I don't want her growing up with a fat daddy, I'm afraid that in time, I'd me an embarrassment to her as she get's older.
I've decided to start my "new year's resolution' early, so I'll have a jump start on it. I've had a gym membership for well over a year, and only go every other week with my daughter to swim (movie night on Fridays). I'm resolving to go to the gym at least 4 nights a week. Use some of the machines that they have (treadmill, bikes, etc.). Starting today, I am going to walk an hour per day, and stop getting second helpings at dinner time and smaller portions too.
I joined myfitnesspal because I think what I've been missing from previous attempts at losing weight, is accountability. I'm hoping to make friends on this site, that will keep me accountable, and inspire me to exercise and take better care of myself. I need to be pushed, etc.
Add me if you wish.
Kevin

Welcome! It sounds like your daughter DOES motivate you! MFP has made the difference for me with logging food and exercise. Take advantage of the forums and your blog to keep a diary of your progress. Take pictures! Looking back over the past 6 weeks has made me more determined than ever to not go back!

Hi Kevin and Shuuma,
I've been lurking on FitnessPal for a few months, getting ready to get serious... I too have Diabetes for more than 15 years and finally have needed insulin. I'm looking for motivational friends.... I'm getting serious as of Jan 2 but am "prepping" this week. I am also looking for budgetary balance by reducing eating out - fast food and not so fast foods....
Good luck to you both... slow and steady wins the race. I am also using the Striiv Walkathon app to track my activity and found a cool book on 400 calorie Fix that I gave my hubby for Xmas and have been reading ever since... both seem like good resources and motivators.... Oh and I plan to watch the new cooking show Cook Your *kitten* Off. I love to cook and thus to eat... so trying to find ways to make it happen in a healthy direction.
Merry Christmas... Happy New Year... Happy New You!
Take care,
Erin0
