The scale is not moving!!!! I am working out every day and eating better than I ever have but the scale is not
moving. My clothes are fitting better and I think I am seeing a difference but I would like to see it in the numbers too. I know it's only been a month but geez!

I have been known to threaten the scale. I found the biggest trick is to put a sock in it. Inaccurate weight, what a lovely thing. :) Ok none of those are good advice. What I am suppossed to say is measure yourself, you are losing inches, you are gaining muscle and losing fat, stick with it, blah blah blah. YELL AT YOUR SCALE!!! Pray to your scale! Give your scale love! Give your scale pain! Pull a Mel Gibson on your scale! Don't worry, I won't judge, because I have done it all.

your post made me laugh. This morning I kicked the dang scale and called it a few choice words then almost cried. I hate it! But your post made me feel better. Thanks for the laugh :) I obviously need to be measuring. I know i'm doing something right because my clothes fit better and I feel better. But the scale is just being stubborn. Keep up the hard work ladies. We will overcome the scale and it will submit to our hard work eventually :D

Measuring has kept me motivated in the last few months where my weight loss has been reduced to a crawl. I keep reminding myself that ultimately it's the actual size and not the weight that matters. I know it is really hard to not see the scale move…hate that…hang in there. Remind yourself that you are doing the right thing and moving the right direction.
  • i'm upset with my scales too. i have two sets. one a cheep set they are great they love me but barely move. if i stand with my feet together on them i am up to four pounds lighter than if i stand feet apart. Then i have the expensive set that claim to know it all. my starting weight in july was 150lb, i've exersized watched my food and calories. my tummys nearly flat and my great scales say i'm 154lb. my other scales by the way when i stand straite say i'm 141-3lb, feet together 138lb. i dont know exactly which are true but my expensive ones i took the battery out yesterday and am using it to hold up some wonkey furnature. i hate them.

I wonder why we, especially women and especially in our society, are so obsessed with the scale? It really is just a number and you can see 4 different people who weigh the same amount, even at the same height and they can look totally different. Really, that number doesn't matter, it's how we look and how we feel about how we look...and what's healthy. But, even knowing this, I weigh myself everyday and I log that number here, I also log it in a spreadsheet, but I also do not obsess over it. I know my weight fluctuates everyday and when it goes up a bit it doesn't really bother me, yesterday it was up about 1 1/2 lbs, today it is back down plus down another 1/2 lb. For me, as long as I see it falling over time, I'm not concerned. The best thing for me is seeing my clothes continuing to fit better, or even get too big and I'm having to buy new ones. To me, the weight (I've lost 50 lbs now) does not seem real at all so the thing that is much more real for me is that the clothes I bought 2 months ago, which fit really well, are now falling off of me!

Try not to worry about that number so much, just use it as a tool. Really congratulate yourself on your hard work and seeing your clothes fit better!!!

Numbers are good, but it's important NOT to get caught up in them. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat.. You're losing weight, for sure, especially if your pants are looser! All that new muscle means you're toning up and it's speeding up your metabolism so that losing weight should be becoming easier. I don't go by the scale anymore, just how my pants fit.... it's a better judge of how you're doing!

Keep up the good work, Muscles!:-D

    Hello everyone:

Okay here are 2 post that I think you all should read if the scale is getting to you.
The first is by chanstriste13 and it's got to be the funniest take on the love/hate relationship most (if not all) of us have with the scale. You may even want to print it out and keep it close to your scale to read before you weigh in. Under search type in "Dear Scale".
The second post was sent by rnroadrunner and he posted an article by a certified trainer who details why your weight fluctuates daily or not at all and why we should not rely so heavily on a scale for results. The post is long but well worth the read.
    Type in "Scales can lie????"
    Hope this helps.

Move your scale from the hard surface its on to the carpet & BAM! 15lb weight loss

Seriously tho, keep on keepin' on. Frustrating not to see the scale move, but you know its working if you see a difference & your clothes fit better. :flowerforyou:

I've been feeling the same way! Keep with it! The scale hasn't budged for me even though I am watching every calorie and increasing my exercise, however, I have lost two inches in my waist and hips! YAY! If the clothese are fitting better and you notice you are losing inches, don't worry so much about the weight. It will follow if you keep up the good work!

I have to agree with you. I weigh my self and nothing change, but I know I am losing because I am seeing a difference in my clothes. I want to avoid the scale becuase it is really making me discourage. (I want to see my numbers go down!!)

Don't let it discourage you!!!! If you're eating right and exercising then something is happening. Don't weigh every day. Put it up so you're not tempted to weigh every day.
Now if I could just practice what I preach 8*)
  • Try to watch your measurements over your weight - especially if you're working out. And I try not to weigh myself more than once a week... I feel like I'm a slave to the scale if I do it more frequently than that.

Good luck and don't loose your motivation - you can DO THIS! :)
