New Here and Trying to do it Right

Hi,
I am a chronic overeater and I would actually call myself a food addict. I have spent my entire life overweight to varying degrees and then in the last 2 months I decided I just couldn't face continuing on this path. My body hurts from head to toe. I look in the mirror and am horrified. It wasn't a diet that I needed, it was a complete CHANGE in a lot of things in my life.
I went to my Doctor and she sent me to a Weight Management and Health Clinic. I found what I needed.
Over the years, as many of you probably have done, I have marched through every new diet with varying degrees of success and then put it all back on and then some. Every January I would load up on healthy foods and swear that THIS would be the year that I got a grip. I never did.
I knew how to diet. I knew how to lose weight and I also know a LOT about nutrition. What I couldn't do, was STOP EATING!
The Clinic is helping me with behavioural therapy, MEAL PLANS NOT DIET PLANS, exercise plans that I can actually do and a mindset that says that I am going to slowly change things not BAM on January 1st change my life.
The clinic sent me to Fitness Pal and so far so good. I get my meal plan this afternoon and I actually started a month ago with a slow change of increasing protein and decreasing refined carbs. I've lost 12 lbs and didn't gain an ounce over Christmas.
I finally feel like I'm in the right place.
I know it won't be easy and I know that there will be hiccups along the way but I'm grateful for the support that this site offers and the community that it grows.
I look forward to making some friends here maybe.
I'm ready to change.

Welcome to the right place. Haha.
Welp...now that you're ready for change, just remember that ol' saying, "The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare." Now that you're ready for change, it's time to start grinding away, paying dues, being consistent and accountable, etc. Good news is...you can do it!
Good luck to you!

Hi! My name is Mary but all my friends call me Penny. I have been married for 27 1/2 years, have one son who is 25, two boxer dogs named Joe and Jasper. Work as an Administrative Assistant to 5 judges in the county I live in. I belong to a weight loss support group called TOPS. I have been on MFP for a while, have lost a bit of weight and was at a stall for a bit due to some unforseen helth issues with my husband. Have decided that I didn't lose it to put it back on (and boy does it come back on quickly) and I'm back at it. Especially since the holidays are over. My motto is, "ONE DAY, ONE STEP, ONE MEAL, ONE PAOUND AT A TIME. THAT'S HOW I HAVE TO DO IT!!!" Feel free to add me if you would like. It's all about helping one another. Motivating and being an inpiration. Have a great day!0

Welcome to MFP.
I am still quite new myself. I have found the food and exercise diary and the contribution of other members very helpful.
I also found using a kitchen scales a very useful tool. I am more often now finding my assessment of a portion size matches that of the scales.
My tip would be log everything, no matter how small or insignificant it seems at the time. I found seeing the food in calorie numbers and seeing how making portion size adjustments can impact my daily intake, has been instrumental in helping me on my weight loss journey.
I have adjusted my goals 3 times since I started with MFP and each time I am making a more informed choice. It is working for me and I hope you find being here as useful as I do.0
