Neck up you look fine but, neck down..... umm!

I have this from so many people. They all say that I have a pretty good face but my body needs some serious work or that I have a cute face for a fat girl. How do you take these comments? As a compliment? And what do you say as a reply?

Why do people care so much about what others think about them? Seriously, you could be in great shape and somebody will still hate on you. Just go look at some of the success stories on here where people are commenting with "You look too skinny/muscular/whatever." If somebody says that you're not their type, move on with your life. Get a cat if you need to.

Tell them you can lose weight, but that horrendous personality just can't be fixed. :drinker:

There's really nothing appropriate you can say, except maybe "Thanks. Noted."

A comment like that says a lot more about the source than it does about you.

I would just ignore it. If it bothers you, I would say something. It's a backhanded compliment. I would just keep working on myself and not let any immature jerks (male or female) effect me. They obviously don't understand how that can hurt you or leave you confused. You probably do have a pretty face :) . I'd just remember that and keep working towards your goal. Don't worry about what other people think (easier said than done). If it bothers you LET THEM KNOW....It will make you feel better . I PROMISE :D

    Speak your truth hun.
  • Why would you lower yourself to talk to someone like that? I would not respond but walk away from shallow people. Do you really want people to like what you look like or like who you are? I agree with the other poster who cares what anyone thinks about you, what do you think about you? I hate it when others are so self important that they think how they view the world is much more important than being a good person. You are a beautiful person if you are happy with yourself nothing should change how you feel about you. I am losing weight because I am not happy with my ability to keep up with my kids, school work, house work and job like I feel I should so I made this change for me. I don't care what people call me, how they treat me or what they say because it's their problem they are too shallow, stuck up, jealous or rude to get to know me. I didn't miss out on them they missed out on me. Same with guys if they judge you on looks alone what will happen in the long run? Looks fade, people come and go just remember you have to live with yourself forever. Like who you are before you examine what package you come in.

Honestly, I was going to say the following.

You could say this to them:
-Now that we're sharing, I know this amazing plastic surgeon that can take care of all your wrinkles and sunspots. He even does crow's feet and droopy lopsided eyes, but I hope you can afford him, he's expensive. You could always work three jobs.

Anyway. Mean people will be mean. Nothing you can do about it but move onto better friends.

Visualize doing this in my head:

    20gl743.jpg

While smiling and politely thanking them for the "compliment".
  • "I'm so glad that you decided to judge who I am as a person based on the way my body looks."

Seriously, I learned a long time ago that if someone chooses to judge me based on something I said, did, do, have done, might do, the way I dress, act -- you get the point -- that they're not really worth my time.

I have a fairly small circle of friends and they're people who are all over the world and they're my friends because they don't judge me and I can be who I really am with them and it doesn't matter.

Get rid of these people in your life who are saying things like that. You really don't have time for them.

I start sobbing then curl up in fetal position stroking my arm and muttering "self love self love words can't hurt me"
  • Sometimes people just don't have a clue.

My own mother used to always tell me I had such a pretty face, it was just such a shame that I was so overweight....

She honestly thought I would find her words encouraging!!! I'm sure it never crossed her mind that I might feel hurt at her words ;-(

I never experienced this, even at my heaviest weight. Since multiple people have said this to you I'm wondering if you might be asking people for feedback on how you look...if you are, consider changing your phrasing so they don't have the opportunity to say something unpleasant like that...or simply stop giving a s**t what other people think and focus on how you look and feel as you work toward your goals.

If the people around you are spontaneously saying things like that to you then Unicorns feedback is dead on.

It's a backhanded compliment, which is not really a compliment at all.
